Total white trash and other scumbags cover themselves in tats. And no, they are not "art". This is why real art has lost all meaning, because people get away with calling anything and everything "art".
I'm 33, and have no tattoos and will NEVER have any. I have too much self-respect for that.

Try doing it yourself and tell me it's not art. It's a form of expression and can be quite beautifully done. It also takes a LOT of training to master (I'm not talking random skeevy guys operating out of a shack).

Go get some friends and a life. Though I'm doubtful on the friends part since I can't imagine you're a lot of fun at parties, what with that self-righteous stick up your butt and all.

Lol yep. My watercolour tattoos make me white trash and/or a scumbag. It doesn't matter how I act in life. My tattoo defines me totally. The fact that I chose a job that allows me to help vulnerable people, choose to go through life trying to be as nice as I can and generally, just try to be polite and courteous, mean absolutely nothing.
                          People are deluded.

                              HaddonfieldMemorial — 10 years ago(October 12, 2015 04:27 AM)

I'm a bit on the fence with tattoos. On one hand I know they're not for me and it isn't because I can't handle the pain I'm a perfectionist so I'm always looking to better something (story I wrote, picture I drew) and I know I'd either have to go back to have something added or removed. Plus that's a lifelong commitment and I can be honest and say I have trouble in that area (which is why im single no doubt)
But it also seems as though a lot of people get them just to get them these days. For instance I see a lot of tattoos of stars. That to me says somebody didn't think it through. I mean, you'd think a little more thought would've gone into it than that. Then again I don't know their story they could've lost a family member or friend who loved stars. I try not to pass judgment and I also know that it's none of my business either way. Just like I don't feel it's my place to tell someone what movies or music they should like. It's up to the individual.
It takes a lot of skill to be a tattoo artist they're not just plucked off the street. Not everyone can do it. So yes, I do feel it's a legitimate artform and a form of expression. I just choose to express myself differently. To each his own. If Danielle is happy with her decision that's all that matters. Nobody here pays her bills.
I think people like you are putt off by the fact that tattoos are more mainstream and acceptable in the 2000s. Sorority girls have them now and it's almost thought of as another accessory, I've known people who've gone with friends to get "best friend" tattoos or a bride and her maid of honor getting a matching set as a testament to their friendship. 20-30 years ago it was mainly bikers, rockstars, and inmates that had them now you see the most effeminate of gay men who have a ton so is not one size fits all.
I think you're being a bit too dismissive of tattoos and the people who have them. I know plenty of people in my own life who have tattoos and they don't fit the stereotypes that you assign.
I think the fact that you're on the internet upset about a stranger's tattoo and have no qualms about ogling her body before she got the tattoo says more about your moral compass than it does hers.

Yours is a pretty well thought out response. Congratulations.
Regarding other comments in this thread though:
Anyone can do a tattoo. (just not necessarily legally though, or well)
There are not only widely varying skill levels in tattoo artists, but different styles of tattoos as well. If you doubt that, just locate the series
                                INK MASTERS
, and watch a handful of episodes. That series is based on a competition among tattoo artists, and challenges to do different styles in each episode. Since not all the artists are even familiar with all the variety of styles, some of the results are, shall we say, disappointing.
All tattoos are done on real people, for better or worse. (Yikes!!) And there is a time limit for each challenge, which includes the time the volunteer takes to choose a tattoo and style.
Some people are under the influence of something when they get a tattoo, and, shall we say, the choice is not well thought through. Reasons can include getting a tattoo on a dare, peer pressure, "because tattoos are cool", and the like. Some are 'spring break tramp stamps' or 'license plates'.
Other people spend time and effort in the choices, and some may just be inspired. One famous example is Angelina Jolie, who has a tattoo for each of her children, detailing the global coordinates where they were born, or adopted. (However, recall that she and an earlier husband (Thornton) had a small vial of each other's blood that they wore on a necklace). Some people have a photo-quality image of a child that died at a young age, or a person of special significance to them.
                                The choices are unlimited.
Actress Jennifer Lawrence (of HUNGER GAMES fame) had the tattoo "H2O", that was done exactly that way, but it was meant to be the scientific formula for water, which required the character "2" to be lower. When she realized the error, she had it removed (using a laser process, requiring several visits, and reportedly more painful than getting the original tattoo).
Who doesn't have a tattoo? Lots of people, maybe even a majority of the population of the country. The reasons against are as varied as the reasons for tattoos, and include religious reasons, and health reasons.

                                  Agreed!
Tattoos are as much art as spray paint on a wall that isn't supposed to have spray paint on it, it's body grafitti, nothing more.
Nothing is more attractive than clean, blemish-free skin.

                                    1. Why are some people without tattoos, so absolutely obsessed with tattoos and the people that have them?
                                    2. Why are some people without tattoos, so self entitled and often very weirdly upset about a stranger's body? Danielle isn't your girlfriend or your wife. Why on earth do you care what her body looks like?
                                    3. I've never seen a tattoo parlour like you described. Utter bull.
