Theory of Everything, movie and Stephen Hawking's family

I just saw the movie 'Theory of Everything' and thought that Eddie Redmayne & Felicity Jones were excellent in it, especially for the roles they played while still being relatively young actors. (There were a few moments for sure where I forgot it was an actor & actually thought it was Stephen Hawking. lol)
Anyway there was much about Hawking's life & backstory which I didn't know beforehand, including the fact that he & his wife were married as long as they were, and that he'd fathered three children sometime in the 1960s and 70s. (Then too that they even have at least three grandchildren now.)
Knowing now that Stephen Hawking is a father & grandfather, it now makes me curious to know1c84 if any of them inherited anything from him, such as his great intelligenceor even his neuro-muscular disorder? (Especially given that even Stephen himself began showing signs of his physical disability as early as his twenties.)
I'm just curious about both now, that's all.

A related question to yours would be to ask why anyone with ALS would
WANT
to have children at all, if there was even the remotest possibility that such a horrific disease could be
"passed on."
