    OP,
Maybe you need to re-think your political assumptions about those who disagree with your precious positions. If she was as you describe her from your personal encounter, then she is not a "racist, homophobe, right wing, wannabe American Taliban religious fanatic PSYCHO". Unless you are truly lousy at reading people's personalities, you have a dilemma to resolve. You can go the really easy route and think the worst of her, or perhaps you can consider that a person can hold positions different from yours and still be a decent person. You choose for yourself.

I think what the OP meant was that his first impression was wrong because he assumed someone that friendly and seemingly happy couldn't hide such hateful intolerance.

Your lack of articulation might be troubling, if I cared even a little.

No, she definitely is. She's two manifestos short of a Unibomber.

Read the Unabomber Manifesto section entitled Psychology of modern leftism, it is spot on.

Not even remotely "spot on". Sorry.
Ted K. was just another delusional, pissed-off right-winger.
Ironically, when he's ranting about the feelings of inferiority and powerlessness in the left, he's actually just engaging in some projection of his own.

I do believe she's made her politics quite painfully clear. A person cannot be racist and homophobic and bigoted, and still be decent at the same time. Period.

I met her as well - we sat next to each other on a long plane flight and chatted extens5b4ively.
I understand exactly what the OP means. In person, she's very sweet and likeable and the very personification of words like "perky" and "ray of sunshine".
However, her political views are the exact opposite dark, angry, bitter and hateful.
On one hand, I can understand some of it. She told me about some of the things that she's been through in her personal life and I can understand why a person who'd been through those things would have some stored-up bitterness and anger.
What I don't understand is her buying into the wholesale delusions of the nuttiest fringe aspects of the religious right.
However, I see her, as PG Wodehouse would have said, "more to be pitied than censured".
Like cat who is cute and adorable, but because of what it has endured, scratches and claws people at random.

The OP's story and how he remembers her was exactly what I thought of her as a kid too. It's literally saddening and shocking to learn her true colors. I've never given up one of my childhood crushes so quick lol. She's ugly af now, and not because of her looks, but her beliefs and attitude.
