I've had the privilege to work with David Jason on three ITV productions and what you've heard couldn't be further from the truth.
He is a very private man and doesn't really mix with cast and crew off-set, but he always queued up for his dinner with the rest of us and refused to be treated like a star. He was a very down to earth man, brought a birthday card in on one day because he'd heard it was someone's birthday (one of the make-up girls I think!), and was very friendly. He even signed an 'Only Fools and Horses' book that I brought in (although I got told off by the assistant producer for aksing him!!)
He is a little distant because he values his privacy, but I never saw him raise his voice at crew members. He also doesn't use foul language. I never heard him swear ever, even when certain takes broke down due to other peoples mistakes.
This rumour is ill-founded and plain wrong. David Jason is a consummate professional and there are many, many people who would queue up to work with him. Actors with bad reputations just wouldn't have the success he has had.
Your faith should be restored, as he is a top bloke!

There was only ever 4 episodes of Micawber, so if your DVD has all these four, then that's all there is. Strange they would put 'complete season 1' on the cover, when there was never a season 2

I worked with him as an extra a few weeks ago and he seemed fine enough, as someone else said quite a private man he didn't seem to keen on signing things but I think it was the attention fazing him perhaps as there were quite a few extras there that day.
He also ate on the lunchtruck with the rest of the crew, cast and extras that day rather than what the original poster would perhaps imply of him going of to his trailer, so unless the op caught him on a very bad day I think it's prob bull.
Wish i'd su2000mmoned the balls to get him to sign my only fools dvds

Oh BS. Whenever you're in showbiz in any way there's always someone eager to bad mouth you, and the bigger the star you are the more people there are wanting to slag you off.
As for your mate's cousin's boyfriend's best friend's cameraman or whatever - of course he had a reason to lie! Look, he's kicked off a whole thread on IMDb, he's practically famous himself now!

Its somewhat true. I think years of being one of Britain's mnost recognised faces has turned him this way. He won't talk to fans. Don't ever ask for an autograph if you bump into him, he will rudely refuse.
This was told to me by the organisers of the OFAH conventions who have met him a few times.

I watched The SAhow Must go on the other week, seemed quite a good bloke albeit what we saw was on screen of course.
As others have said though to maintain his kind of success you can't go around shouting and swearing at people acting the big I am - those that do fall off the tracks very quickly.

I really don't get it. Why do some people expect a guy they are pestering, to react nicely? Put yourselves in some famous actors' shoes and think how you would react when trying to have a serious conversation over dinner (with your wife or something) and you're constantly asked by strangers if they could have your picture with authograph. Some fans are real morons and can't seem to see that you're busy and do not have time for them at that moment! You can take the first and second, but you ARE going to burn the third!
Fans should leave famous ppl alone. Go to a fan-day or something. If a famous person shows up there, than it's OK. That's why he or she is there. But not in the real world.
                    Get a life!

It's weird because my mate saw David Jason and Nick Lyndhurst filming the Jolly Boys Outing in 1989 and he said they both had a chip on their shoulder. They wouldn't talk to any spectators and were giving it the big i am!
Maybe it was just Margate bringing out the worst in them!

My uncle worked with someone who was his on-set driver. Apparently the guy is an absolute cnut; rude, arrogant, right up his own a**e etc. Not suprised to find this thread on his page. Good comedy actor, though

It is sad to hear this I assure you that when I met him in 1982 he was the perfect gentleman But alas it is true that he has changed so much that I hope that I dont meet him again which would spoil my memory of that man. In a way it is spoilt knowing that he has changed so although it is understandable with all the attention that he gets he probably craves for the privacy that we all take for granted, I dont know wether he has become vulgar but I know that he wouldn,t give any autographs at an event for John Sullivan recently. It is very sad he really was just the opposite until Only Fools took off as it did, you would have loved him, WHAT A SHAME.

David Jason has always been an extremely shy, private and introverted man - I suspect that stories of him being outright unpleasant are massively exaggerated from encounters people have had with him where he's remained reticent and distant (as is his right) - certainly behaviour of the type being described above isn't tolerated on television productions for very long and isn't the stuff of a long-lasting career like the one Jason has enjoyed.

He seems like a good bloke, and i dont believe the bad stories. David knows he is a popular figure and well liked, so he would care what people think of him.
Being polite and nice and having good manners isnt hard. Even if David had a bad temper im sure he has the abiity to show restraint and keep a good image of himself.

I saw David Jason at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
