I'm crazy about her; my favorite KJ scene was in One Eyed Jacks when karl malden insults her about "taking her out of the bean fields"; and her eyes are like lasers. She could burn holes through walls with her eyes. I could watch any of her scenes in One Eyed Jacks over and over; and the scenes between her and her daughter. She had a terrific screen presence.

Absolutely agree! Those are two powerful reasons for me to adore her: HER AMAZING EYES! (and the whole unconventional-beautiful-misterious face). And, of course, her tremendous talent (for me, she was the GREATEST mexican actress EVER).
Her screen presence was absolutely STUNNING. I think she perfectly ranks into the Bette Davis / Joan Crawford category. I mean, she also STEALS every-single-scene where she is in!

but I am staring at her waiting for her to move or say something.
I use to do it as well! That's what stars are made of! That strange quality of getting your attention, wherever they are or whatever they do. I just can't understand why she didn't become a huge star

I've only seen Katy Jurado in a handful of films, but the performances in all of them are really great.
She easily outshines Grace Kelly in High Noon, and gives a memorable performance alongside Ernest Borgnine in The Badlanders. As I was watching that film, I wondered if Jurado and Borgnine had an affair while making this film. Later I read that they were married during this period!! No wonder the chemistry was so amazing between the two of them. Jurado's also good in One-Eyed Jacks and heartbreaking in Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (which I need to revisit).
I would love to see more of her films. In the trivia section, it mentions that Katy Jurado was the first Mexican actress to receive an Oscar nomination for her performance in Broken Lance.
Indeed, she was a very beautiful lady.

I just couldn't agree with you more! I think I've seen even less Katy Jurado motion pictures than you, but, anyway, I do love her face, her voice, her attitude and her huge talent. Without a doubt,
she was the best mexican actress ever
.
Thanks for writing!

I think I remember Katy playing her last role in it. She was really cute and moving, and played a maid, I think (by the way, not a very nice character for one of the greatest mexican stars ever).

I just saw Sra. Jurado in an old Rifleman episode; I hadn't thought of her in quite a while. It is hard to compare anyone to La Doa, but Katy was great, just compelling to watch . . . especialmente sus ojos. . . .
Strange, I just looked it up: La Doa and Sra. Jurado died just a couple of months apart, in 2002.
Descanse en paz, Sra. -

I agree with FranLovesBetteD. In the movie ,Un secreto de Esperanza (2002), she steals more the film! What a Goddess! Katy Jurado(God rest her soul) was a real fine actress, as well as beautiful. In the movie -Un secreto de Esperanzashe- her ability to create a full-blown person was still as sharp as ever. And I know it was a magical movie about magical people because before long, somehow, she was beautiful all over again, even if she was old and out of shape. This story has layers, it has substance, it has intelligence, it has integrity, it's got so much spirit it radiates. I staggered out at the end gasping 'everyone has to see this'. I kept thinking: if enough people see this movie, everybody might even have world peace. You know, it just got to me, to my core. What a gift. Thank you to everyone who helped make this film, that, This was Katy Jurado's last film.. It was heaven.

@ goodbyeleningoodbyestali,
She was magical and so was the film. She's one of the actresses who makes Mexicans be proud of being Mexicans. I love how she explians what fame, fortune, and populariy can do and make a person feel. If only she was still alive to do more films. If only she would have won that Oscar back in 1955. -

I agree, I grew up watching her in Novelas and she became one of my favorite actresses, then my mother was like lets watch some of her movies from when she was younger, and OH MY LORD she was beautiful and yeah she had such and exotic face that I've never seen on anyone else! Yeah Maria Felix was one of a kind, also had a strong but beautiful face! AH actors and actresses from the good ol' days! They will never be others!

but then again, I'm not really sure
