Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Jim Kelly

Can you imagine if Kim Kelly had been born in say, 1980, or 1985? The dude could have been a Afro-American version in 2011 of both Bruce Willis and George Clooney. He could have been total Hollywood sex symbol for the ladies today. The Hollywood taboo on interracial romance and sex still exists, but is much lower today. So Kim Kelly could have been the renaissance man for all the ladies.

I have to disagree. The 1970s had more movies with black men as action stars than the last three decades combined. In fact even back then Hollywood (just a short time after Civil Rights) was more willing to do a taboo romance between a black man and a white woman. You don't see that in film these days. And in 2011 Hollywood has absolutely no use for a handsome, black leading man who can kick butt. So we differ on the view of whether the situation has gotten better although at least we recognize that there is a hole in modern films that a young Mr. Kelly could fill if he was allowed to.
