I often read, and heard so many idiots telling us "Robert F. Kennedy would surely had been elected president in 1968 if he had not been assassinated". Sorry to disappoint you: I can bet he would not have. Reasons:
- Democrats were very divided over the recent race riots [Newark and Detroit of 1967], the Vietnam War and the growing anger of most middle class and working Americans of the USA toward the policies in Washington which they felt were not in their interests.
- Growing dissidents among college students toward the "establishment".
- The democrats have lost the South, and had joined the Southeners the Republican party [Nixon even visited the South in 1966 and 1967 to get support from the racist "rednecks" and betray them later by pushing for some more civil rights rules and visiting China in 1972]. No wonder the fascist "neocons", and ultra conservative republican fascists, like Mr. Glenn Beck and Ms Ann Coulter, today tend to hate him as a "traitor", as well his advisor Henry Kissinger.
- While the Republicans had only two candidates [Romney, then governor of Michigan, and Richard Nixon], the democrats had Johnson as president [he retired later], Eugene McCarthy, vicepresident Hubert Humphrey, George Wallace [and his supporters will NEVER have voted for Robert Kennedy] and Robert F. Kennedy, alias "Bobby". Too many, with different points of views. And the democrats were rocked with violence at the Chicago convention [thank goodness Robert Kennedy was dead by then. Never saw it!]
- Richard Nixon had "revealings details" of Kennedy's relationship with the mafia, Nazis [his father financed Hitler's Nazi Party it is said], Marilyn Monroe and other "unsavory" facts. And he would have used them against Robert F. Kennedy had he lived, and became candidate for the democrats in that presidential campaign of that year.
All this point out that Robert Kennedy would never have been elected president, and Richard Nixon would have defeated him, surely, in that year.
P.S.: And for your information, I voted for Mr. Barack Obama, but I can be quite "objective" and even give the "devil his dues&quo5b4t; if I see that way.
