More or less; here is the exact quote, as told to Reuters in 1998 (after the release of the remake of Lolita): "I am appalled they should revive the film that caused my destruction as a person."

      Why did she say that?

          Agreed.
How can a "film" cause one's "destruction"? She took/was permitted by whatever guardian (I don't know the background) to do the role. It's acting. If you can't hang, don't.
          Sometimes ya gotta wonder.

She is playing the poor little self-entitled victimized blame game. If she was that talented and had a decent agent, would she still be blaming the film for lack of career and "destruction"?
She was presented with an opportunity to do something that should have matured and galvanized her. According to the trivia, she wasn't even allowed to see the premiere due to her age, so unless she had a private screening, I doubt she can blame the film damaging her for being such a young age of only 15. I wonder how much of the content though was masked from her regarding Humbert's intentions.

              'Twas my point exactly.
