Felix Leiter, Sylvia Trench, Zukovsky, Jack Wade - other characters who've recurred. The Kamran idea is an interesting one, but I doubt it w16d0ill happen.

He was not taliban, there were many people fighting against the soviets. Check out Ahmad Shah Massoud the leader of Northern Alliance who faught against the Taliban and was killed by them.

He could play a role like that.. more in line with the role he played in Living Daylights.
And he has already played a taliban kind of guy in True Lies which was a james bond-ish movie. -

Of course, they try really hard in those movies to not have the supporting characters overshadow Bond, and they miss some real opportunities for plot and character development. Still, its interesting to think about what "would" have happened to his character, "Kamran Shah".
Would Kamran have joined the Taliban in 1995 after the cold war ended? Probably. Would he have been a friend of Osama Bin Laden? More than likely. (They would have fought alongside one another against the Soviets). Would Kamran have joined the Saudi prince in an attack on the World Trade Center? MaybeMaybe not.
Would Kamran have been a follower of Wahabism, using a religious doctrine to build an army of limitless fanatical troops? Perhaps he would have felt betrayed by the West and angered at its support of Israel and felt it was time to support Osama in his war. Or was he betrayed by Osama? Was he persuaded by him at the beginning out of religious loyalty and friendship, only to discover too late that his true plan would be carried out by 13 highjackers on 4 airliners in the US, resulting in the full wieght of NATO military forces coming in to Afghanistan and ripping up the country to look for Bin Laden.
Maybe it doesn't fit the standard model for the Bond films, but then again, maybe the standard model could take a rest. -

Wow, good reply! Just the sort of thing I was looking for when I created this thread.
Yeah, Kam5b4ran probably would have been a friend of Bin Laden in that they were both fighting for the same cause: to get the Soviets out of Afghanistan. But I don't think he would have become a mindless follower of Bin Laden. First of all, Kamran doesn't come across a religious militant. Also many of Bin Laden's followers have lead very insulated lives and have had very little education. They don't know of a world beyond the Afghanistan wilderness. Remember that Kamran Shah went to Oxford so he's more educated and more worldly. I don't think he'd buy the whole jihad mind set hook line and sinker.
