Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Doug McClure

    richard.fuller1 — 12 years ago(June 01, 2013 08:45 AM)

A very uninteresting show in the 80s called1c84 Star Games or something, about celebrities competing Battle of the Network stars events, six actors from various shows.
All six of the Brady kids from Brady Bunch, nearly every soap opera had a team, Roots, Paper Chase, Emergency, What's Happening, John Schneider, Willie Aames, Jerry Mathers, Sarah Douglas, all of them were there, I guess all these out of work actors.
I think Roots did win the overall thing, can't recall.
McClure was the only white person on the Roots team. When they won one competition, the other five team members embraced and cheered, totally leaving him out.
    Funniest thing I ever saw.
He just stood there smiling. "That's my team, . . . they forgot about me."

No, the Roots team was actually rather enjoyable. LeVar Burton was on there and Eric Laneuville and Mark Spitz.
Spitz gave Burton some pointers on swimming.
"Swimming is a weird thing to do," and then Spitz alluded to the hair giving one guidance in the water, like a rudder.
Burton summed up about the Olympic swimmer, "basically, he was no help at all. Swimming is weird and I need long wavy hair to improve my speed," he joked.
Laneuville likewise did well swimming and made jokes about going against the stereotype that black guys shouldn't do well in the water.
And upon seeing they had excluded their teammate McClure, the Roots team included him in the group hug.
