I pretty much liked all of the characters on The Virigian. Trampass has to be my favoirte. Some of the great episodes had him on the road by himself helping s5b4omeone out. I just watched and episode where he found a baby and a boy(Clint Howard). He was taking them to their mother while being chased by bad guys. Nita Talbot(another favorite of mine) helps him along the way. He is just so likable. I bet you he was the same in real life. I watched a video on you tube where James Drury said Doug was the best friend he ever had.

Hello, I know the episode you refer to and I agree that Doug was very likable and I think the character of Trampas allowed him to show his personality more than any other role I have seen him in. He obviously had a good sense of humor, a kind heart, a loyalty to his friends, a sense of adventure and a certain amount of courage. I am not saying he was perfect but neither was Trampas as he would often get in to trouble for making unwise decisions. I think Doug felt very at ease with the character. Perhaps this limited his success in other roles.
Trampas was definitely my favorite, and still is.

When I think of Doug McClure, Trampas is the first thing that comes to mind. His friendship with the Virginian was great.
