Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Vera Miles

    tonner4 — 14 years ago(December 29, 2011 02:40 AM)

I just read a review on IMDB by a technician who worked on one of her movies who said she went to church every Sunday and he believed her to be Mormon!?!? Does anyone know? Just doesn't seem to go together, since she tended to be quite bold in her choice of roles and many tended to be sexy, provocative, cutting edge material even by today's standards. Like I said, anybody know?
    thanks

You know my dad had told me the same thing once that he had heard somewhere she was a Mormon, no clue though and as she is extremely private doubt will ever know.

Did your dad know her or he just read it somewhere? That would be cool if he knew her. I read that one of her husbands was born in Utah, so maybe he was Mormon and she was giving it a chance. Anyway, doesn't fit at all with her image as a very sophisticated, glamorous and worldly "movie star". She is someone I really wish would write a book! But from what you and several others say, she is very private and not the type to do it. Bummer!

I'm not sure where he had gotten the information from but I remember talking about her once after we had seen her on Little House on the Prairie and he had mentioned it.

Thanks for your reply. By the way, I used to be tonner4 but changed to pouncemo - I'm the same person. Anyway, the reason for my interest is that it is just interesting! And, my 18 yr. old has been in a four yr. relationship w/ a Mormon. We like him very much, but their religion is quite um, unique. But as Bill Maher says, is it any more bizarre than any other religion? NO.
The other kind of weird thing is that I read that Vera's dad was a pastor who left his family to go to Alaska or something! With that background, you wouldn't be surprised if she gave up on religion.
But I really think you are either capable of being religious or you are not. I mean, I think we are all capable of experiencing spiritual or mystical feelings. But being able to be religious in a traditional, formal or structured religion is not something everyone is capable of. I don't think my daughter is, but she may do it to be with this boy. That's what I'm afraid of at any rate.
Anyway, its not like I'm going to stop loving Vera Miles. She could be "Servant of Molock Lord of Fire", and I would still love her! I saw that episode of Little House on the Prairie and liked it very much. Very sad, but an offbeat, unusual story. And it had Vera Miles! If she IS Mormon, she will for sure get her own planet in the next life. Or maybe six or seven!

If Mormon's allow multiple divorces then it's possible (she's been married many times). Kind of doubt it though.

I have a lot of Mormon friends/neighbors and do they ever allow multiple divorces. Some of them (or even their parents) have as many as five or more divorces under their belts! Also, a Mormon friend told me that their divorce rate is 50%, same as the general population.
My husband's friend married a Mormon man who had been married and divorced 7 times. She was his 8th and it ended in divorce too. She told me he recently tried to marry again because they believe you have to be married at the time of your death to get into the highest level of heaven. You'd think that many marriages would kind of disqualify you from the highest level of heaven. 1c84Plus, he had/has a serious porn addiction and was meeting women on-line. Still, it sounds like he thinks he has a shot at the highest level of heaven.
Do you know how many times she was married? I've seen three or four, and several say she is still married to the 4th husband. That would be good - she deserves a long, happy marriage.

Re: Mormon Divorces. I was raised in the LDS church let me see if I can reiterate the principles of it sorry if its to complicated.
They get married in the temple, they're are sacred vows sealing them for time and eternity (the next life). If they get married again they can have their former marriage anulled from church records and get sealed to their next spouse if they desire to but it's a very long process. Or they can get married again but just for time until they die.
