I know how you feel, Jim is often shown in the media as a simple wild man who liked to party. In some respects this is true, but he was just what you said, a poet and a philosopher, he had some problems but that was not what he was about.
I am glad to see the new generation (yourself anyway) apreciating him for who he was, and not for his image in today's media.

I agree with you a hundred and ten percent. He was a poet, not a face on a t-shirt. Although admittedly, at least people know who he is. I spend my life telling people about William Blake, but only a handful know who the f u c k I'm talking about. So its nice to chat to people about one of my heroes who people actually know.

i just gotta say i love jim morrison and i have been wearing t-shirts with him on them i was a freshman in highschool. back then i did cause i was into the music w/o understanding it, now since ive grown up i am more into his lyrics and his books he got me into blake and nietzsche. so maybe these teenagers just need soemtime to grow up and have a better understanding of who he is. it does annoy me a little when my brotehrs friends who are into rap and bad music and they seem me with a jim shirt on and they say "jim morrison man hes awsome" but they wouldnt know his music if i played it for them

I'm just thrilled that people who are 14 and 15 even know who Jim Morrison is. It's not everyday that teenagers idolize the same artists as their grandparents. I know that back when I was a teenager you didn't see anybody walking around a high school with a Frank Sinatra shirt on.

i agree. ive been a doors fan for 2 yrs and listening scice i was born. im 16 and the first song that played on the radio on the way home was break on through my dad told me. then i went to a party and i wore my dads aviators(he has a target bag full of broken ones hes a cop) and a white beep one of my friends said holy beep jim morrison came to my party. everyone says i look like jim (you can see my morrsion costume from halloween check my myspace www.myspace.com/missonaryoflove666) i dont dwell on it though. but back on topic. a bunch of freshman at my school where doors shirts and think they know the doors. i asked 1 who was the doors bass player and they said robby. "go change your shirt right now you do not deserve to wear that when you dont know they dident have a bass player". Also people who think there from the 80's and there country rock shudders there blues and rock for beep sake. i agree with the poster about the lyrics.

Yeah, but what I hate more are the people that claim to be Jim fans. I still believe that anyone can be a Doors fan. So whenever I see someone close to me that has a doors t-shirt on I always say "I like your shirt!" and try to strike up a conversation about the band. I usually discover that they know nothing about the band except Jim Morrison and "Light my fire". So needless to say, usually I'm disappointed. I don't judge anyone that has a doors t-shirt on because I remember when I was younger and wearing doors t-shirts, people might have thought that I don't even know anything about the band.

i dont really care why people are wearing the shirts. im always glad to see a supporter, regardless of whether or not they can encompass the talent of Jim. it's good to see it. i will never knock a "doors poser". i dont believe in them. there has to be a good reason theyre wearing that shirt, even if they do only know one doors song. even if they dont know who the doors are and are just wearing the shirt for popularity's sake, at least theyre promoting good music, great poetry, and keeping the 60s alive.
and i would also like to point out that jim did sort of predict the punk rock movement. i watched an interview with him where he predicted a type of music that would be a sort of rebellion (against governement and the war and what not). it's super interesting and prophetic. he also envisioned music made with computers and electronics, which also happened. jim was ahead of the curve, man. totally cool.
so dont hate. smile when you see jim on somebody's boobs. at least he's still being kept alive.

Well I am now in my Thirties and I used to wear Doors T-Shirts when I was into them in my late teens during the Eighties.I think it's great that new generations are still discovering and appreciating The Doors. It just goes to prove how good the music was and still is.

I think Jim would be honored that kids still care after 35+ years.
His work lives on like his heros (nietszche, mailer, rimbaud, huxley and so on).
Today(or in the past) whether it is the words, or the sexual attraction, it is all recognition.
When I was a teenager I only knew their "greatest hits" album, but it
led me to seek out every piece I could find of their music.
I hear something new every time I listen to The Doors. The appreciation never ends for me.
I've been a fan for 20 years now.

Yeah Jim despised the coming of heavy metal111c and punk alright! The fact that nothing of the kind existed until almost a decade after his passing is irrelevant.
You just (like almost all teenage fans of most everything) wish you could have Jim all to yourself. That you were only one who "understands" his works.
It's really pretentious and you are in effect more annoying than any punks who happens to like or not like the doors or young girls who find Jim hawt or soemthing.
The only good thing about it is that, sure as anything, you'll outgrow it and start appreciating good music and good poetry for what it is and not make everything about what you/other people "get".

i'm 16 and i too am a huge fan of Jim Morrisonand it's truehe was a poet not a rock starwhich is an amazing quote from the 1991 movie btwpeople don't understand the beauty in his lyrics and the ideas he had. he's just seen by some people as "punk" because he never followed any rules and didn't put up with society's beep and ideas of what things should beand i respect that and thats what most teenagers get from himme being a songwriter myself have always been inspired by his music AND his rebelious spirit. I can see where your coming frombut i can also see where they're coming from
