Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Robert Morse

I remember back in the '70s watching his movies on the late show. He was always fun to watch, always a little clever and sneaky. He's kind of like Michael J. Fox only a million times more talented and with a billion times more charisma. For a while I wondered what happened to his movie career.
It seems his movie career stalled in the late '60s and it's obvious that his strengths, light comedies and musicals, were out of style by then. The new breed of directors and actors wanted gritty realism, unfortunately Mr. Morse did not fit in. Frankly I wish Hollywood had made more movies with him, he's great to watch.
Badder than old King Kong, Meaner than a Junkyard dog

Well, I had a giant crush on him from How to Succeed in Business, and I don't think that crush ever really went away. He's an incredible talent, and I also wish there were a lot more movies in which he had either starring or featured roles.

He also has bipolar disorder, which I've been told he tried to self-medicate himself out of with booze in the fifties and sixties, when lithium was about all medical science had to offer those so afflicted. Many bipolars did not like the affect-flattening side effects, which must have been particularly hellish for a rascally pepperpot like Robert Morse. I understand that he's been properly medicated for a couple of decades now and off the booze as well. I say this with great affection and respect for Robert Morse and his exceptional gifts, but it may partially explain his invisible years. That said, I'm mighty glad to have him back in one piece. Go, Bobby! [I've had a huge crush on him myself for years and years and years ]

I think you really hit it on the head. In another era, every household would of course know of Robert Morse. He's amazingly talented - obviously dramatic down to his toes and fingertips. He's one of those who, if he'd not chosen acting, would have had everyone tell him in the occupation that he chose - that he should have been an actor.
