Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Lynda Obst

    ECHenrikson — 18 years ago(May 08, 2007 08:46 AM)

Hello, my name is E.C. Henry and I'm a 37 year old feature length, spec. script writer who would like to get a BUNCH of scripts to Lynda Obst for her consideration to produce.
I don't know what it is about her, but I'm like stuck on this idea that she's the best choice, and by that I mean the one producer who will be able to take what I've written and maximize it's art to make it a classic.
What I've written that I want her to consider is:
"Cupid's Helpers" Genre: Romantic Comedy. Obst attraction factor: this script has roles in it for Owen Wilson and Kate Hudson in it. Key scene takes place in Seattle's Space Needle (bridge to Sleepless in Seattle). Would put another feather in her cap for doing rom/coms.
"Revenge of the Fat Chicks" Genre: Teen Comedy. Obst attraction factor: an opportunity to turn the teen scene on it's heels. "Revenge of the Fat Chicks" plays a bit like the movie "Porky's" but it ALSO is filled with great warmth, AND an important message to tell.
Anyway, I know Lynda's got a lot of projects in process, BUT I really feel I've got the ONES that she needs to be doing right now. So if anyone has any ideas how to get scripts in her hands, please let me know.

      Her site is at
      http://www.lyndaobst.com/index.html
      It says
      Information for writers
Lynda Obst Productions works with writers represented by WGA-signatory agencies and managers. For legal reasons we cannot accept unsolicited manuscripts or pitches.
A list of Writer's Guild Agents is online at

      Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip, Alex Michaels. Would LOVE to work with Lynda Obst. I've mailed multiple querry letters to her production company (never once got a reply). Talked to a member of her prod. co at a Screenwriting Expo, visted her website and left message, and left a message for her on IMBD.
I've also read about her upcoming projects. Sounds like she's pretty busy. Got my fingers crossed, cause she's the "a," # 1 person in Hollywood I want to work with, as I've got this belief in my head that I can't shake, that Lynda Obst can work the necessary magic to make my sripts CLASSICS.
And I've got the goods for her in "Cupid's Helpers." Roles in it for Owen and Luke Wilson, Kate Hudson and Jennifer Love Hewitt. All set in a story that weaves a magic spell like "Sleepless in Seattle."
All that said, I am slowly coming to grim realiation, that Lynda Obst is a shut door, no matter what stunts I try pull.
Got any other leads for top knotch producers looking for a "classic" rom/com? Cause this E.C. cat can deliver.

She is1c84 definitely a top producer.
I'm not sure on other producers to contact though.

Thanks for the concern, Alex Michaels. I've got a copy of the Hollywood Creative Directory. It has tons of prod. co's in it. If not Lynda Obst, I'd really like to work with Roth/Arnold who produced "13 Going on 30," which I thought was an EXCELENT romantic/comedy.

You might want to check out some screenwriting contests as well like at
              http://www.moviebytes.com
. That is definitely a way to get attention for your work.

If this guy is a "writer" he should study spelling. An actor has rolls? Maybe for breakfast. And "it's art" is just plain wrong. It's is the proper possessive. Some people have huge egos. I see nothing has become of his bunch of scripts.

Hey redrrioche, thanks for taking the time to read my original post dated in May of 2007. WOW, been a LONG TIME since I made that. Can't believe I put "rolls" when I intended to say "roles". Thanks for re-directing my attention to that, I did update the post with the spellin16d0g change.
YES, I am writer still at it. Would still love to work with Lynda, but as the years go on, (I'm now 46 years old, and STILL undiscovered) it's looking more and more like I'll NEVER get to work with Lynda or anyone else for that matter. A few years ago I went on Sherwood Oaks trip to Sony Studios where Lydna or a rep for her company was supposed to show and interact with a bunch of us pre-pro screenwriters, but Lynda was a no show.
I'm up to like 18 spec. scripts that I've written and am still trying to sell. Always hopeful that someday I'll get my "break", but more and more that's looking doubtful.
Rom-coms will ALWAYS be my genre of choice. I just love 'em, have since about 1994 when I went to the theatres a record time for me of like 6 or 7 times to see "While You Were Sleeping". That movie just got me at the right time in my life.
These days, as of December 24, 2015, I'm working on ediding an epic fantasy novel that kicked it all off for me, WAAAYYY back in the early 1990s. This epic fantasy story begins and ends with a dragon fight, and in between that it has 3 awesome (or at least I hope they are) love stories that all begin at different times in the story. Not sure when I'll have this story ready to show, but I'm having a blast writing it. When it is ready to show I hope to take it to Peter Jackson
So, YES, E.C. Heny is still alive and well. And YES I agree with you right now it does look like I'm the living incarnation of a walking and talking failure. But the landscape out there is very tough to break and meet the right person who is willing to take a chance on you and champion your work. Anywho
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
