Sometimes I feel like she's rather monotone. The character's great, and she definitely has presence, but her voice and performance often comes off as one note.
But it seems like a lot of you are fans. And the Emmy voters liked her.
    What am I missing?

Presence is a big part of performance though. As for her voice, I don't thinb68k its monotone. It's just throaty and monotone and doesn't betray any emotions.

I love how reasonable your post is! You're not like "SHE SUCKS EFF HER AAAAHHHH" like some people on the TGW board.
As for what your missing, I think you have to be open to how unique the performance is. I don't think there's anything like it on TV. If you look at her eyes and her mouth and the facial expressions as a whole, combined with how she carries herself, they really communicate SO much it's kind of unbelievable. It's so compelling. I'm really floored by how heavy and weighty her facial expressions are.
Also, there are some people who have seen her in other work, like A Good Year and A Mighty Heart and Bend It Like Beckham so it's obvious she has a COLOSSAL range. Actually Ridley Scott recommended her for the role and said some REALLY nice things about her. He said she could do anything: comedy, drama, whatever. I think once you realize that she's capable of BIG performances, it's quite impressive how subtle and subdued this performance is.

While I don't think her American accent is as good as other people think it is, it could be much worse.
To me, there's no question that she is a wonderful actress. I think her range is excellent. Her portrayals of characters are myriad, anyone who's seen A Mighty Heart, Bend It Like Beckham (one of my favorites) and the Good Wife could NEVER (IMO) say "oh, she just plays the same role/character over and over again". which, sadly, can be said about many actors these days cough Clooney cough.

I actually thought the same thing too on the good wife. In fact I didn't like her character at all at first and thought she ruined the show in comparison to the rest of the cast. But now she is probably my favourite character! I think it's like you either get get our you don't. I didn't realise at first she was supposed to be blunt and emotionless I just thought it was bad acting but as her character develops you realise she is very confident, calm and collective. Although considering the amount of P.I work she does she should be in the MI5/FBI or something lol.

Agreed. She is an expressionless limp fish on TV. I watched a full season of "The Good Wife" and she smiled twice and laughed out loud once. Her acting is awful and she often appears to just be going through the motions.
If she didn't dress like a whore, nobody would even know her name.
