Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Grace Park

Does anyone know if she is related to Linda Park from Star Trek: Enterprise? Neither of their pages have bio information with information about siblings. I know Park isn't a terribly uncommon name, but the kind of look similar too. Just curious.

I cam here wondering the same thing. Grace says that they are not related and that there are six Park clans and she's not sure which one Linda is from.
Six clans is a fairly small number.
That just tells me that that they probably are related, but so far back that they just don't know it.
Like Celine Dion and Modonna are 14th cousins and Madonna and Lady GaGa are 9th cousins.and they all have a french ancestor in common. Dick Cheney is like a 7th cousin of Barack Obama and Colin Powell and G.W. Bush are also cousins as well as G.W. Bush and The Queen of England and they didn't know it either
A geneologist did the research and figured all that out.
So, it's very likely that they are far off relations and don't even know it.

I think the breakdown is something like
2/10 of all koreans are Kims,
          1.5/10 are Lees
          1/10 are Parks
Or something to that effect. Just posted about her last name in some other thread here.
There's about 50 million Koreans in South Korea, another 25 in North Korea, and about 5 between China and North America (I did a paper on the cultural dif's between Koreans a while back and it kind of got me curious on my heritage >.>)
So about 8 million people CURRENTLY have the last name Park.
Could they be related? Possibly But you're talking at least 1000th cousin at that point, and are they really related by then? Heck, I'm only half as likely to be related to Kim Jong Il as she is to Linda.

I have spent a lot of time over the years in Korea. Park and Lee are extremely common names over there.
Stand in a crowded room or train station in Korea. Shout for Park or Lee you will get a lot of folks responding.
Not saying standing up and shouting in a crowded room is a good idea but they are both very common.
More than Smith is in America or even Martinez in Mexico.
            Hope that helps.

People have already said that Park is a common Korean surname, but anyway my parents like to download a lot of Asian TV shows, most of them Korean. It seems like a lot of them set in modern times will have a generic walk on character named something like "Attorney Lee" or "Mr. Park". Kim as surname for a walk on character comes up also. So it is like saying "Smith" or "Jones" or some other very common name in western culture.
(Not saying that a main character might not have the surname of "Lee" or "Park" or "Kim" just saying it seems to be used for generic characters with only a few minutes of screentime that are only seen for one or two episodes)
