Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Bob Peck

Why did they kill his character off in the movie? Made no sense at all, he lives in the novel, been kinda cool seeing at least one survivor who worked at the park live.

Cause Spielberg hates guns and maybe people that hunt animals.. I love Muldoon he shouldn't have been killed off! Bob played him perfectly! Go Bob!

He had such beautiful blue/grey eyes.. I could stare into them for hours.. G I miss him and wish that he had not died so young.. We should treasure what e gave us its the least we can do to keep his memory alive.. 🙂

"Im not sure if this is actually true but I heard that Peck discovered he ahd cancer at the time of filming and insurance would not cover him for the proposed sequel, so they killed the character off."
Would you be good enough to tell us where you heard that?
I think it all had to do with giving the characters a sense of vulnerability. See, Grant, Sattler, Malcolm, Generro and the kids were all guests. Arnold, Hammond, Muldoon and, to an extent Nedry, were all competent in the operations of the park and apparently knew what to do when the dinosaurs got out of hand (knew what to do, but not so much able to actually do it). But Hammond was more relation to the visitors because he himself was vulnerable, he wasn't in the park 24/7, he just owned the place, so he didn't fully know what to do either. Therefore when experts like Arnold, Muldoon and Nedry are dead, it puts the visitor characters in an even more vulnerable state and they have to figure out for themselves what to do. Sort of a "you're on your own now" kind of scenerio.

jaws is NOT family friendly. to this day i will not swim in an ocean.
Jurassic park is family friendly because dinosaurs are extinct therefore pose no real threat/danger ot anyone except for in their sleep
jwas made me not want to go swim in the ocean though.

I've heard they wanted him to return, as a disfigured Muldoon as in the book. He was unable to film. That's why it's mentioned that his family received death benefits in #2.

Robert Muldoon was the only character I cared for. Judging from the opening scene, I thought he was going to get revenge on the velociraptors. If they wanted him to die, it should've been at the jaws of the t-rex.

His f16d0ace was hysterical, paralyzing like a snake.
I absolutely love this character, yeah maybe more than anyone else.
Hes the kind of guy you would trust your life in, you would believe this guy being able to handle a shotgun properly!
