Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Rupert Penry-Jones

    I just watched Cambridge Spies.
Anyone who knows it well, can you explain why Donald Maclean suddenly leaped on his secretary/admin lady?
    And why he suddenly stopped?
It made no sense to me.
I'm a forty-odd year old woman, yet nobody pays
    me
to snog Rupert Penry Jones. I've obviously made
    all
    the wrong career choices
    "Dave's out.
    I'm in.
    And stop saying mock."

It's been quite a while, but my take on it was that he was told to do whatever he had to in order to obtain information from the woman.

              Agree. Spectacular script and cast!
If Ewan McGregor were a lollipop I'd be a diabetic strumpet

Rupert Penry Jones shows how very scary he can be in Cambridge Spies. Duplicitous to his country, violently jealous of his wifeWhen he looks up and to the left he definitely makes one shudder. He played a similar cold and heartless man in Catherine Cookson's The Moth and in Agatha Cristie's Poirot: Sad Cypress. He shows he has the range to be other than a romantic heartthrob.
