jonathan cain wrote it for his then-wife tane' cain. he has since remarried.
however, he wrote 'open arms' for his pre-journey band, the babys, but vocalist john waite turned it down, claiming it was " too syrupy". journey had a top-5 record with it, peaking at #2 for weeks.

Does anyone know if Steve Perry is gay? its been rumored. Or is he so fed up with women that he doesn't want to get married. or is he the biggest playboy around like jack nicholsen and just doens't want to get married. I understand he has a big temper. maybe his relationships are rocky. he mentioned one time that "Sherry" was very calming to him. Or could it be that he is still in love with sherry? he's portuguese and I know sometimes these european men can be so loyal when they are in love even if there not together. Steve if your still in love with Sherry pleaseGET OVER IT!!!!!If God wanted you to be with her you would be with her. You may see her as calming Steve..but I see her as a bitch. a stuck up one.She didn't understand you as a musician. it was all about her..her..her.What she wanted.what about what steve wants and what makes him happy. Who wants to be married to a dictator. Submissive MY ASS. If she really loved you she would of hopped on that tour bus with you and be your moral support. But she wanted to have a normal family normal life. Who's life is normal? Steve..you ever see the Selena movie? What do you mean the "roads no place to start a family." Bullcrap. If thats the family business then ..oh well. Its food on the table. What you really need steve is to marry a female musician. Like paul mcartney and linda. someone who will play back up keyboards for you or something like that. Steve it ain't over til its over. get yourself some young female musician. start a band again. be like the partridge family. i know your hitting 60 in a few years but DAMN,Steve, you are HOT!!! I like you better now than in your journey years. You were to much of a Rock star look. Now you look like a man. a real man.Sophisticated. Like James Bond Sexy. OOOOh Steve, I like it shaken, not stirred.

I'm married to a Portuguese man who was born in the Azores (Portugal), as was Steve Perry. They were born on neighboring islands. Portuguese men can be somewhat opinionated and headstrong (and very close to their mothers), but in truth, it really seems to be the women who rule the roost. My husband can be very straight-forwarded but is also extremely warm and loving. Their culture is much like that of the Italians, Greek, Spanishloud, gregarious, opinionated, but very giving. I've heard that Steve is headstrongwhether that be due to heredity or simply his perfectionism. I mean absolutely no offense to him, but I also know he's not a very tall man so may try to be somewhat tough (Napoleon complex) to make up for his height. In his business, maybe he had to be toughso many people wanting a piece of him. Who knows.
I've been a fan since 1981 and know ABSOLUTELY nothing about his personal life. Does anyone know if he's ever been married? Ever have any children? Portuguese are generally very family oriented so I can't imagine him being alone for all of his 50 plus years (racial profiling on my part?) He truly has been a mystery all these years.
Does he still live in northern CA or has he moved? -

I am so in love with Steve Perry. If his favorite past time is or was kissing I think he should write a song about it and it can be like the #1 song of all time or something like that. It would be so cool to have Steve back. Even if it is true what people are saying about his voice. I will always think Steve has the best male vocals ever. Go Steve!!!!

Linda Eastman wasn't a musician; she was a photographer. She ended up playing keyboards and backing vocals simply because she was Paul's wife, and also because she did have some musical talent.
Mmmm-mmmm!
