I want to genuinely thank Brett Ratner for starting up his tuition grant for aspiring filmmakers who want to go to film school, but can't afford it.
In 2009, I was awarded $15,000 by his organization to attend the New York Film Academy.
Unfortunately, coming from a lower income family, I was unable to attend due to the high cost of the school and ended up forfeiting it.
But, being awarded that grant gave me the strength, courage and willingness to become a better filmmaker, vfx artists and cinematographer. The feeling that someone in a high position understood where I come from and believed in me.
Here's my student film I did back in 2010 in a film/television production class at my community college:

It has it's rough edges, especially with acting, but for a no budget student film with only a month of post production work, I think I did alright. I ended up networking with a few people from Hollywood because of this film.
I'm currently putting together a short film based on the 'Halo' video game franchise.

Thanks again, Brett Ratner! -

How funny you say that. It's guy's like us that go out and make something of ourselves while guys like you sit on your ass all day and complain on message boards, swearing that you know tons about something you've never actually experienced first hand. Have fun living the good life! I'll be out making movies.
