I love reading about the most trivial and mundane things on the net and this was one of them. I bet you raced home as fast as your little legs could carry so that you could declare this meeting on the net for all to admire and adore you.

What's wrong with writing a compliment about someone? Actors are humans, just like the rest of us. It's quite natural to meet them in the course of our everyday lives. It's not bragging to say you've met one. I live in the Berkshires, where we were blessed to have Roger Rees as director of the Williamstown Theatre Festival. He did a fantastic job, though the local morons kept complaining about his schedules and eventually forced him out. The WTF board and Rees' successor trashed him in the local press. Their treatment of this splendid actor was unprofessional and undeserved. We have boycotted the festival ever since. I had the pleasure of talking with Rees several times during intermissions and found him amiable and fascinating. He's a marvelous example of the theatre world at its best.

I met Roger Rees in the spring of 1989 when he came and did some lectures at FSU in Tallahassee. My high school sent over some English classes to listen (field trip!) and we had a great time. My English teacher was heartbroken though because she couldn't go due to a prior commitment. (She had RR's picture up and everything.) So a friend and I agreed to try to get his autograph for her.
After the lecture we raced out of the auditorium like budding stalkers and caught up with him in the hallway. We explained our plight and asked if he would please sign his picture for the lovelorn Mrs. Lorek. He was great! He asked her full name and made up a funny story and wrote it all down, something to the effect of "Oh dearest, where were you, I was so sad you couldn't make it, but we'll always have Paris". He was such a sport about it and it made our teacher's year.
He was really nice and gave me his autograph too, although it's in the front of a paperback copy of The Silmarillion by Tolkien that I had on me at the time. Since that book was published posthumously, people always look at me weird when I say I have an autographed copy. It just happens to be by Roger Rees.

One of the best autograph stories I've read (both RR being so awesome for your teacher, and the autographed Silmarillion)!
RR is friends with a woman in my choir, so he's been to several of our concerts. I've wanted to be introduced, but it feels wrong to approach him since he's coming as a supporter of our group. My cousin sat next to him, though, and said he was very nice. (And I don't know the soprano well enough to ask for an intro.)
