Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Jason Reitman

    dlkbc — 20 years ago(March 23, 2006 10:08 PM)

I just came out of a screening of 'Thank you for Smoking' and it was one of my all time favorite movies! I am already thinking of when I will watch it again (before the DVD comes out) because I know that I had to have missed all the brilliant dialogue!
I can hardly wait to see what he comes up with next. He is definitely the next hot director to watch!
Congratulations for your genius writing and directing!

you should try to get your hands on "Gulp".
The film wierded me out because it was soo good and for years I never heard of anything else from this director. I was like, damn Hollywood must be hard if the guy who made Gulp can't find more work - and the son of the guy who made Ghostbusters.

Just came out of a screening of this too. Absolutely fantastic. "Ghostbusters" AND "Thank You"?? Why can't my name be Reitman? What a family!!

Scratch that. Super Ex-girlfriend? I'd want emancipation.

The new hot director to watch?
              His name is Craig Brewer.
Jason Reitman was on the right track, but then he made Juno and I lost all my respect for him- he should have rewritten the script himself. Then it might not have been intolerable.
However, Thank You For Smoking is one of the best comedies of the last few years, and he gets a pass for that.
              All in the Game.

Yea this guy has really caught my attention with Thank You For Smoking and Juno. People can hate on Juno all they want but this was a great story and I thought better directing than Thank You For Smoking. He showed more of an ability to speak through the camera. I honestly think Thank You For Smoking is a masterpiece of comedy. It wasn't just about the tobacco industry or lobbyists this was a full parody on America in general and how our society is built on working the system and how there is little social responsibility. I love when the gun lobbyist orders the apple pie with cheese and Naylor says "that's disgusting" and he replies "its american." I wonder what Reitman will do next.

I agree djs and now having seen Up in the Air I can't wait to see his next few projects. These boards are strange lots of hate about nepotism and other personal attacks. However he seems to make good movies that you wouldn't automatically assume would be hits I remember I stumbled upon both Juno and Thank You for Smoking now I am going to actively look for his new stuff. Seems like a lot of imdb boards are now about personal nonsense and not the actual work the artist make.

                    I agree. he's 3 for 3 in my book
-Thank You For Smoking = 8/10
-Juno = 8/10 (better than i expected as it lo7ecoked stupid based on commercials for it)
-Up in the Air = 8/10

                      Labor Day
                      to that list.
