Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Jason Reitman

    pop_iconography04 — 16 years ago(January 24, 2010 11:27 AM)

When Jason won a Golden Globe recently, he made a comment in his acceptance speech about how people tend to like how he "writes women." This intrigued me, as I had actually managed to see this man's works but had never seen his face before. I later researched on the internet and immediately established his link to Juno, Thank You for Smoking, etc. (in which not all were, admittedly, writing gigs)
So I wanted to pose the question:
What do YOU think of Reitman's female characters? Would you say he is entitled to his claim that he tends to "write women" well, or not?

I don't have much to add, but I just want to say that Juno, Up in the Air, and Spanglish are three of my favorite movies, and it's quite nice to see Jason Reitman and James L. Brooks mentioned together 🙂
As a male, I don't know if I can really say how accurately written his female characters are, but I do think that gender relations in his movies are extremely well written/directed.

Well I think he is entitled to his claim in a way since he is the one
            directing]
the actress to act a certain way to fit the writing. At least that's what I'm assuming
