2010: 1/30/2010: Following a soft reopening in mid-January,
the Battleship Missouri Memorial will officially reopen
Saturday January 30th 2010,
one day after the 66th anniversary of the battleship's launch from
Brooklyn Navy Yard.
The renamed Battleship Missouri Memorial resides in Pearl Harbor,
moored a few hundred yards from the USS Arizona,
a battleship sunk during Japan's Dec. 7, 1941,
attack that forced the U.S. into the war.
The surrender documents wer7ece signed on the
Missouri's deck on Sept. 2, 1945 ( 4.5 years before Baltimore Bob arrived ), in Tokyo Bay.
The battleship was also used in the Korean and Persian Gulf wars before
being decommissioned in 1992. The memorial opened in January 1999.
Baltimore Bob states The Battleship Missouri resided in Bremerton, Washington
when Baltimore Bob was in the US Navy and picked up the USS Ponce the LPD-15
( Ponce commissioned on 10 July 1971 / Web:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Ponce )
which was built in the Seattle, Washington shipyard
and Baltimore Bob stayed in the Bremerton Naval Base
before we brought the Ponce over to the Bremerton Naval Base
about July 1971 and then we left there in September 1971 for
Our Homeport of Norfolk, VA passing thru the Panama Canal
and then stopping in Panama City
and a few other places including Ponce, Puerto Rico the
city that the ship got its name (explorer Ponce de Leon).
Baltimore Bob first visited the USS Arizona Memorial in December 1983
on his first of hopefully a few Vacations to Hawaii as Baltimore Bob
spent a week on the Big Island.
My #1 Celebrity Birthday Person for January 30th is
#1 Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945)
#2 Dick Cheney (Lucky to reach 69 in 2010) 1941
Dick actually made it out of the White House alive with 2 full terms as VP.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Would have been 128 in 2010) 1882 - Died age 63
Born 30 January 1882 - Hyde Park, New York
Date of death 12 April 1945 - Warm Springs, Georgia.
(cerebral hemorrhage)
Birth name: Franklin Delano Roosevelt / Height: 6' 2" (1.88 m)
Nickname: Houdini In the White House, The Squire of Hyde Park, The Sphinx,
That Man In the White House and FDR.
Spouse: Eleanor Roosevelt (17 March 1905 - 12 April 1945) (his death) 6 children
His wife, Eleanor Roosevelt, was a niece of U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt.
Fifth cousin o16d0f President Theodore Roosevelt.
Fifth cousin once removed of wife Eleanor Roosevelt.
Fourth cousin once removed of President Ulysses S. Grant.
Fourth cousin three times removed of President Zachary Taylor.
Seventh cousin once removed of Winston Churchill.
Winston Churchill said about his first meeting with Roosevelt that meeting him
"was like opening a bottle of fine champagne."
The 32nd President of the United States, and the only one to serve more than two terms -
he died three months after beginning his fourth term.
Worked in advocacy since 1907 until 1910.
Member of the New York Senate since 1910 until 1913.
Democratic Vice Presidential running mate to James Cox in 1920.
They lost to Republicans Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge.
Was elected New York Governor in 1928 and in 1930.
Suffered poliomyelitis in 1921, and lost the ability to walk on his own.
He wore heavy leg braces and when he appeared in public standing on his feet
(which took a massive effort) he was usually supported by someone (most often his son).
Many efforts were made to conceal Roosevelt's disability.
When he was elected President in 1932 the general public had no knowledge of his ailment.
Was U.S. President from 1933-1937, re-elected in 1941 and again in 1944.
On April 30, 1939, he appeared on experimental television station WX2AB in New York City,
officiating over the opening of the 1939 New York World's Fair,
making him the first US President to appear on television.
When he was five years old, his family visited the White House and met
President Grover Cleveland. The President put his hand on little Franklin's head and said,
"My little man, I am making a strange wish for you.
It is that you may never be President of the United States."
Shortly before he won the 1932 election, the Boston Braves lost their
final pre-election football game.
The Braves went on to become the Boston Redskins, and eventually the Washington Redskins.
In all these incarnations, their fortune in the final pre-election game has always
paralelled and predicted the fate of the incumbent party or nominee in the Presidential race.
This pattern was unbroken until 2004,
when President George W. Bush won the presidency, despite a Redskins loss.

Well not that much into art so I would prefer tickets to a movie preview.
Here's Baltimore Bob's story:
Back in late 1990's (I watch Jeopardy a lot) there was a question:
They showed a painting by Thomas Gainsborough
( Thomas Gainsborough (christened 14 May 1727 died 2 August 1788)
was one of the most famous portrait and landscape painters of 18th century Britain.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Gainsborough )
Gainsborough's Mr and Mrs Andrews (1748-49).
