I seriously doubt Orson Scott Card is jealous of Rowling. he has monetary success along with the critical praise she will never see. as he says, people see her work as "subliterature," even among books for children. Card is the only author ever to win both the Hugo and Nebula awards with consecutive novels. when she won her Hugo, everyone complained and dismissed it as the token fantasy book they have to reward every once in a while. why would a writer be jealous of that?

So by your statement, if someone is not known, they could not possibly be rich? What does being rich have to do with this?
Also Ender's Game is a wonderful book and I highly suggest reading it. It's one of those, "holy crap I just spent all day in bed reading" type of books because it really does suck you in. -

I'm pretty sure my statement didn't have anything to do with being rich. You or someone else brought that in randomly. I meant that his comment on J.K. seemed like jealousy during some parts (the beginning mostly) with his, "Well MY book was like that!" And really, he's not as known as her.
And after hearing about all of this I decided to check out Ender's GameNot very interesting. I tried getting into it but I couldn't. It's like LotR with me; wasn't very catching (IMO) -

Your ignorance has nothing to do with his wealth and notoriety. And, no, success wasn't brought in randomly. Irulan2 (the genius behind the "If he's not guilty how come people say he is?" argument) claimed Card was speaking from jealousy, so I naturally disputed two prevalent types of jealousy: artistic and monetary. If I had to choose between Card's career and Rowling's, I definitely wouldn't choose hers (or Michael Crichton's or Stephen King's or Dan Brown's). Success means different things to different people.

I don't agree with everything he said, but if you think his points are flawed, address them. Don't try to dismiss an argument by saying, "Oh, he's just jealous." It's the sort of ad hominem nonsense a doting mother says to her child who gets teased all the time. You know what, Mom? Maybe those other kids aren't jealous. Maybe they honestly don't like your precious darling, possibly because she writes simplistic, highly derivative stories and is quick to call lawyers over issues she could resolve on her own. -

whether or not this is true (which it is), and whether or not his opinions are truly out of jealousy, his points are still valid and he has evidence to support it.

Illiterate idiots and young children might not know who he is but he is a very successful author. He hasn't much to be jealous about considering his 'Ender' is going strong after many years.
And I do agree with him on the subject of the Lexicon. I also defy anyone to read 'Ender's Game' and not think the DA in OotP is heavily influenced by Ender's battle games with his friends. I'm not saying JKR out-and-out plaguerised that book but she was influenced by it.

Did you just compare this hacks success to that of J.K Rowlings?
Harry Potter on the other hand is a phenomenon never before seen in the literary world, which success will never be replicated. In terms of sales it is the highest selling series of books of all time, doubling Lord of the Rings even. Critically it is lauded as the 'Star Wars of our generation' and loved by countless millions. The movie adaptations are just as loved both critically and commercially.
Enders Game on the other hand is a long forgotten about series of books, that people are ashamed to have read due to the authors backwards views. The movie adaptation of his movie is one of the greatest box office bombs of all time, people burnt his books because of his beliefs and even before then the critics of his books weren't all that great. -

The only thing that JK Rowling has done is contribute to the further dumbing down of literature.

I saw this on another forum and commented there. It's too long to post here but all I'll say is I disagree with him. There was one part in that 238long wall of crap about how J.K. should let Van Ark make a little money, then later he claims "Now she is suing somebody who has devoted years to promoting her work and making no money from his efforts"
That guy needs to reread his own post. -
