I hope not because I am a devout capitalist, but I hear being a socialist is a common dysfunction in Great Britain.Either way I am still going to be a fan. She's just too adorable to give up.

Prunella has been a member of the Labour party for many years and would probably be quite happy with the term socialist. I think labelling her a Trotskyist is not accurate.
The previous post is annoying however.
Coming from the resident of a country which elects Dubya as its president! A man who's mother said of those made homeless238 by the New Orleans floods that, being poor, they must be used to it. A man whose administration is mired in corruption. A man who willed his intelligence services into coming up with false evidence of WMDs in order to justify a war which has resulted in the needless death of thousands of his own citizens - let alone those of other countries.
If that is the acceptable face of American politics then we are quite happy to be on the left of it thankyou!

If she was a member of the Labour party she was likely a socialistas Labour was a socialist partunlike New Labour which is a totalitarian/communist party.
Both the UK and the USA have such dregs running the countryhowever it wasn't only Bush that lied to invade Iraq, it was Chairman Blair also.
They are too ends of the spectrum the USA is far-right and the UK is far-left. It's a shame that no one likes to be central anymore as the centre can take good policies from the Right and Left.

i am sure that prunella will be having a good chuckle at the thought that new labour are far-left/communist. only someone to the right of mussolini would believe that to be the case..

I think you'll find insulting countries, their presidents and (good God) their mothers is a very poor reflection on any person and throws those who share your politics in a poor light.
To answer the original question, Prunella Scales is a well-known advocate of Labour in the UK, and was famously close to Neil Kinnock, former leader of the Labour Party (was defeated several times by the Conservative Party, led at the time by Lady Thatcher).
Being a Socialist/Labourite, does not prevent her and her equally talented husband, Tim West, from living in a very comfortable (expensive) country home, having been invited to the Prince of Wales' wedding to Mrs. Parker-Bowles.
Nor does it prevent her from taking public transport for free with her OAP "creep card".
She's a wonderful actress, and I've been told, a very nice person.
As is President GW Bush, as an aside.
Politics do not define a person. Behaviour comes closer.

If America had a moderate in office this country may have a chance in the future. But alas, everyone is either ultral-liberal or ultra-conservative. In fifty years, America will be a cespool of corruption and lies. I have already planned to leave the country by the time I retire. I will be very suprized if the US isn't messed up fifty years from now.

If she is intelligent, sensible, sensitive and educated it makes sense to me shes a leftwinger. I dont think though that Bliar and the New Labour are socialists, let alone trotskyists

Please do leave America. It'll provide more room for those of us who actually love and honour this country like I, a British expat who now lives here, does.

YaHwn! Darlings, the woman is 80+ and, more to the point, is FUNNY. Her personal political views are hardly to the point.
Incidentally, Jackie K, your research may be a bit lacking. "This country" is based on intelligent dissent. Speaking as a relict of the first and second Jamestown reliefs AND the Mayflower, I must recommend your reading both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution before making this sort of statement. Blind adherence is not loyalty; intelligent participation the public discourse dis.

I'm reminded of Beyond The Fringe as they (as English people) look across the pond:
"They have the Republicans, which is their version of the Conservative Party. And then there are the Democrats, which is their version of the Conversative Party."
