My advice to any young woman hoping to begin a career as an actress is to get your hands on whatever video recordings you can find of the magnificent work of Prunella Scales.
The art of Prunella scales is impossible to sum up, you must watch and listen to her working, and allow her extraordinary artistry, and frankly, "soul grounded talent" to wash over you.
Observing her attention to the characterisation will not be easy, as she does nothing above the surface at all, it is all prepared and processed internally and leaves no tell tale "acting tricks " on the surface.
Here is a real actress, the genuine article, and the most wonderful thing about her craft is that she is an open book and an open door, that is to say, she approaches drama, comedy, farce, readings, radio, television, stage or5b4 film, you name it, with the same set of tools; more than a star or a personality, she is an actress, a wonderfully rewarding and honest actress.
Actress? Is that politically incorrect? No! It isn't. Men and women both act, but the men are male actors and the women are female actors, I have always been elevated and amazed by the magic of women actors, who bring all the great passions of women and womanhood to their work, something a male actor could only dream of doing, I therefore believe that they deserve the individual definition of actress.
    Regards, Dracher
It is not what we have, but what we do with what we have that constitutes success in life.

Wow! What a wonderful tribute to the phenomenon known to the world as Prunella Scales. Are there two more diverse performances than Sybil Fawlty and Elizabeth Mapp?

I simply could not believe she was both Sybil Fawlty and Elizabeth Mapp.
That was, until I glanced at the credit.
It was like she was two completely different people. No, I must correct myself. She became two completely different people.
        Brilliant actress.

Yes - her performance as the Queen in "A Question of Attribution", which should have got her the film part.
