Technically they pushed his exit back a year based on the comics.
        What's a signature?

There's a lot of continuities. In most of them, the Kents are older than they were in Smallville. And in most of them, Pa Kent ends up dead.
Wikipedia has a good article on the Kents:

His exit from Smallville should have been him jumping through the windows into the Charger with Wopat, burning out on gravel, and heading down the road.
Clark stands in the driveway. "Dad?" he says. A view from further back: "Uh, dad?"

because his role sucked. monotonous as hell, predictable. I don't think it's the actor's fault, it's just that Jonathan Kent was a caricature of a hillbilly.

Yikes. Not really, Marcos. But yeah. The show was on for ten years. It was based on a very famous story with a very specific arc. He and Ma Kent were probably on for longer than they otherwise could have been had the series not chosen to keep them. In fact Clark was two year PAST high school when Pa Kent died.
