Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Donna Summer

The "suppose" cause of her lung cancer developed with the 9/11 residue (smoke and toxins). This sucks. Let see which other celebrities death will be triggered because of 9/11.
Search for Donna Summer 9/11 on Google.

She was a smoker but not in the last years of her life. I don't buy any of this 9/11 bullsh!t.

I'm not really sure either way. There is proof that many 9/11 first repsonders are suffering from lung issues. If you look at photos of the hours and days after the towers fell, they look real foggy.. Only it wasn't moisture in the air. People were breathing SOMETHING in think of all the tiny particles of building materials like wood, cement, plaster, plastic, all kinds of foam materials I think they need to take a closer look at the effects of all this. I didn't read if there was an autopsy, but hopefully they took samples of her type of cancer and maybe in a few years we will have some definitive answers.
I do know Donna had a clear powerful voice longer than most people who really belt out a song! She sounded as good in 2001 as she did in 1978! I believe she took very good care of her "instrument" and knows the first time something was different If she feels it was after her time spent in NY during 9/11 I will lean in her favor.

My Uncle died of lung cancer two months ago. He was only 52. He was a smoker. It's most likely smoking that causes lung cancer. It's so unfair that this terrible disease exists. I wish there was a cure.

Since 9-11, there has been a dramatic increase in people diagnosed/dying from lung cancer.
Valerie Harper was starring in a Broadway play ("Tales of the Allergist's Wife") during 9-11. She was not a smoker, but developed lung cancer in 2010 - shortly before Summer was diagnosed. Harper thought she survived lung cancerbut realized it moved to her brain.

Was Donna really a smoker? I find it hard to believe only because like others have said, her voice never diminished. Smoking has affected some of the great voices (Aretha, Whitney, Dionne) but Donna's remained intact which makes it hard for me to believe.
I think her theory does carry some weight.

Actually, there have been others such as firefighters who helped that have/are coming forward to say that have lung cancer, it is not far fetched as everyone seems to think
