I would love to see these two television specials again!

I was lucky enough to buy the HBO special (Hot Summer Night) on VHS about three years ago when Circuit City was closing. They had shelves of VHS tapes they still had in stock for 99 cents, and I found a few I wanted - Summer's included.
Paul Ryan's proposal is a budget that goes against the teachings of Jesus. -

I have the '83 special too. It's one of the first things I transfered to dvd when I bought a burner. I watched it the night she died and it was just as good as I remembered! I would love to see the '80 special again. I did find a cool clip on youtube of a scene cut (?) from the special. She recreates the My Man Medley from her Live & More album. It seems the person who posted the link was one of the editors on that special and they fought to include it, but it was cut. It really shows Donna's wide range of styles!! Go on youtube and search "donna summer thirties medley" ! You will LOVE it!

Wow, that was incredible luck finding a NEW copy of this video at this late date 2000and at such a bargain price, too! I imagine it went out of print in the late 1990's or so and must have just been sitting on the shelf there all those years, I think I would have bought it at full price if I had stumbled on to it! Used copies of it are not cheap on Amazon or ebay.

I posted this on another thread, but if you are interested someone who worked on Donna's first tv special has been posting some amazing, crystal clear videos from the special. I even found a deleted scene of some amazing Donna singing, recreating the My Man Medley from Live & More. I don't know how to copy links so you can just click them, but these work if you copy & paste.

To make a clickable link, after you have pasted the address in your post type
in front of it and
behind it. Also paste in all your links before doing that as the links tend to break if you go back and edit a post after you have made clickable links.
I'll go ahead and make clickable links for the youtube pages you mention:

I appreciate you posting this, I have thought the same thing, I would love to see the special in its entirety, I saw the part on youtube where she sung "Sunset People" one of my favorite songs by her, and it heightened my interest. It would be cool if Shout Factory or hip-o select gave this the treatment, because no doubt it would be great.

I completely agree with everything you said, it is sad that is often that way in life, and she was definitely worth celebrating when she was alive, I been a fan of hers since I was 2 when "Hot Stuff" was on the charts, her death was evnen harder to take than that of Whitney Houston. But I hope the people at The Shout Factory or hip-oselect are reading these.

Shout! Factory does have a message board on their website that is reportedly read by execs, maybe we should start a thread for Donna over there. I am a member of it's message board but I haven't been there in ages.

Shout! recently reissued Diana Ross' Central Park (coincidentally ALSO from 1983) on DVD, so it is possible they could put Donna Summer's TV specials on DVD.
I have no doubt there will another deluge of Summer compilations (even though there are more than enough out there).
I would also love to see her Geffen era material remastered and reissued, not to mention a proper CD release of "Live and More". -

True, they did and from what I have read, it was kind of successful. They do a great job with remastering and releasing vintage tv shows, specials, etc, so they would do a great job with these if they got them. As far as new releases, I am counting on them, box sets, etc. You are not the only one, I would love to the Geffen material remastered, reissued as well, she made great songs on those. I hope they will

I also read somewhere that Donna h2000eld the rights to much of her later albums so maybe we will start seeing them released again. Hopefully with respect, (liner notes, unreleased tracks, remixes) and not just thrown up on itunes. I do remember seeing much of Donna's music was published under her company Sweet Summer Nights Music so maybe her family will have control over any such reissues BUT HURRY!!!! (before eveone moves on and forgets!)

Universal did a fantastic job with the "Bad Girls" reissue. I hope "Live and More" gets a similar deluxe.
The Geffen material could be expanded with remixes and B-sides. It would be nice to have "Sometimes Like Butterflies" on CD.
A lot of fans have requested Cherry Pop (a UK reissue label) to reissue "Another Place and Time". Cherry Pop reissue a number of '80s album, including Stock Aitken and Waterman's productions. They reissued Rick Astley, Princess, Sinitta and Jason Donovan's albums produced by SAW. Since APAT was produced by SAW, they would do a great job with Summer's 1989 album.
