Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Donna Summer

Universal Japan is releasing Summer's Casablanca Catalog (1975-79) in remastered 'mini CD' issues. From "Love to Love You Baby" through "On the Radio"all remastered. "Live and More" is rumored to have 'MacArthur Park Suite' included, as originally done on the vinyl release.
Prices are high (as are all Japanese imports), amazon has a August 14 release date.

Sounds exciting but I will wait to hear some reviews of the sound quality. I have all her early cds and have an ipod playlist of the correct Live & More. I recently purchased 2 Japanese imports of Deniece Williams and Evelyn King albums and they sound terrible!
I just checked Amazon and Live & More is almost $55!!! Ouch!

This is great news2000, and I'm truly glad that Donna's early albums are getting proper releases, I mean, in case they're really remastered as they should have been since the beginning. However, as much as I like her and her music, I don't think I'll be paying over $50 for each one! That's absolutely crazy! I know it's a Japanese release and stuff, but that's definitely too much. Moreover, are they going to include some previously unreleased songs or something?
I just got her "The Ultimate Collection" set, which contains three CDs and has been wonderfully remastered, and I can't believe how amazing the sound quality is! I'm truly impressed! Sadly, I can't say the same regarding "A Love Trilogy", given that it doesn't sound the best it could do. "Once Upon A Time" sounds a bit better, though. Still eagerly waiting for the "Bad Girls Special Deluxe Edition" and "Four Seasons of Love", which are on its way!

I also noticed that on 8/21 a company called Hi-Horse Records will release THE WANDERER on vinyl! It can be pre-ordered now on Amazon for only $14.98! 🙂

I bought the "Once Upon a Time" and "Live and More" reissues and they are indeed remastered, and they sound excellent. Very pricey, but worth the money.

I wish HipOSelect - which has done an incredible job releasing Diana Ross' Motown catalog over the past three years in remastered/deluxe editions - would do the same to Summer's Geffen catalog. There were plenty of 'vaulted' recordings, and it's too bad they are not released on the albums which they were intended for back in the 80s.
