I like the show and everything, and he's a good character and actor, but the accent just bothers me. He's supposed to be Puerto Rican, and the Puerto Rican New York accent is something unto itself and definitely not how he sounds on the show. THe other guys have believable accents, but his is just too contrived. He sounds like a 1950s boxing trainer from Brooklyn, it's too much.

I gotta disagree. Franco is nuyorican lol and he sounds like a straight up blue collar macho man to my ear. In fact it's the ease of his accent that impresses me. Not over done, and not underdone. I think he stands out vocally because none of the other actors made a bold or definite vocal choice. If you see their interviews they sound on the show like they sound in real life. That's why I love this mans acting. He fully commits. But hey you can't please everybody.

Just a question. Are you a Puerto Rican from New York City? I am. I do not know what "we" are expected to sound like. Uneducated, broken english? Is that what you are expecting? My father was FDNY, and certainly sounded more like Sunjata does playing Franco then what I believe you want the accent to sound like.
