2004: On November 30, 2004, Jennings's long reign as Jeopardy! champion ended
when he lost his seventy-fifth game to challenger Nancy Zerg.
Jennings responded incorrectly to both Double Jeopardy! Daily Doubles,
losing him a combined $10,200 ($5,400 and $4,800 respectively)
and taking him down to $14,400.
Consequently Jennings's lead over the second-place contestant (Zerg)
heading into Final Jeopardy was not insurmountable,
as it had been for 65 of his previous 74 victories.
(The third contestant, David Hankins, had a negative score
and thus did not participate in Final Jeopardy.)
The Final Jeopardy! category was Business & Industry, and the answer was
"Most of this firm's 70,000 seasonal white-collar employees work111c only four months a year".
Zerg responded correctly with "What is H&R Block?".
Her wager of $4,401 took her score to $14,401, $1 ahead of Jennings.
Jennings responded with "What is FedEx?", dropping his score by $5,601 to $8,799
and unseating him as Jeopardy! champion.
Jennings's final total, including his $2,000 prize for finishing in second place
in his last game, was $2,522,700.
The length of Jennings's Jeopardy! run (by airing) was 182 calendar days.
Jennings said in an interview that the loss was "no fluke"
and that Zerg was a formidable opponent,
but she was defeated the following day, finishing in third place.

Efrem Zimbalist Jr. (86) 1918
Born: NY, NY / Height: 6' (1.83 m)
Hardly surprising that the son of concert violinist Efrem Zimbalist (1889-1985)
and opera singer Alma Gluck (1884-1938)
would enter a show business career of some kind.
Surrounded by people of wealth and privilege throughout his childhood,
Efrem Zimbalist Jr. trained at the Yale Drama School and the Neighborhood
5b4 Playhouse, and was an NBC radio page at the onset of his career.
Interrupted by war service in which he earned a Purple Heart, it was director
Garson Kanin who gave the budding actor his first professional role in his
Broadway production of 'The Rugged Path' (1945) which starred Spencer Tracy.
As producer of Gian-Carlo Menotti's 'The Consul,' he won the
NY Drama Critic's Award and the Pulitzer Prize for best musical in 1950.
An auspicious film debut opposite Edward G. Robinson in 'House of Strangers'
(1949) brought little career momentum due to the untimely death of his wife
Emily (and mother of his two children) to cancer in 1950
and his abrupt decision to abandon acting.
He served as assistant director/researcher at the Curtis School of Music
for his father and studied and composed music for a time.
It was TV that made the best use of his refined, unshowy acting style.
His roles as smooth private investigator Stu Bailey on '77 Sunset Strip'
and dogged inspector Lewis Erskine on 'The F.B.I.'
would be hisb68 ultimate and lasting claim to fame.
