Well the trailer was just released and this is Jacki's second US film (I'm still shocked by that), and uh, it kinda shows. She's supposed to be an American mom (to Bradley Cooper's character), although it was kinda hard to tell from the trailer because her Australian accent is so strong. Hmmm I don't know if this is award material, but I'm still curious to see her performance.
I like the big hair but not so convinced by the American accent. Unfortunately for Jacki, her US film career might go the same way as Brenda Blethyn's..2000. small supporting roles as someone's mom. She might be better off in her home country in leading roles in smaller productions. -

AussieStud: I respect your opinion and understand why you make it. When I saw the trailer for this film, I thought along the lines of this was a movie trying to hard to be quirky & cute and dragging in DeNiro to give it some clout or something. Th trailer really didn't represent this film all that well.
I just came back from watching it and thoroughly enjoyed it! Being a mid-forties, East Coast (East Boston) blue collar, sports guy from an Irish-Italian family, I have to say the film was perfectly castincluding Jacki. My wife and I thought she was terrific and we believed so much that she was a Philly mom in a house with all boys where she had to endure years of dysfunction and the hardship of mental illness (husband & son) with a sort of silent, strength that nonetheless, wore her down over the years but never broke her.
Did you see the film yet and was wondering what you thought of it and Ms. Weaver's performance?
Thanks!
