Everyone needs to get togethor and try to get Fred an Oscar nom for his work in A Mighty Wind, that was the most amazing supporting character performance ever filmed
    "Hey, Wha' Happened?"
    "That's Right!"
I mean, come on. The man deserves it.

I agree- he was hilarious in "A Mighty Wind". I loved the bleached hair look 🙂 Sadly I think that if he was going to get an Oscar nod it wou16d0ld have been for "Best in Show" a couple years ago. He had a little more screen time in that one, and critics were raving. If memory serves, he even beat out the gravitas of Albert Finney ["Erin Brockovich"] for the Boston Film Critics Award.

He was snubbed for Waiting for Guffman, and I'm sure the Academy will beep him in the ass for A Migthy Wind. What can you do? Scorcese gets screwed, too.
Actually, the Oscars are a sham, anyway. Denzel Washington for Training Day? C'mon, dog. But I digress
          Eee.

No disagreement there! Willard stole the show in "A Mighty Wind" in what I thought was an Oscar-worthy performance from him. It was one of the better (and funniesr) acting jobs I'd seen in a movie in quite some time.
I hope the academy doesn't tell him "I don't think so".

                  or,
                  "I don't think so."
I belived he invented that line.
Hey don't see any 'Fred Willard Fan Club's out there. I believe I could sell you on the idea.

This guy steals every scene in Best in Show and A Mighty Wind. His double act with Jim Piddock in Best in Show was superb but after watching A Mighty Wind, the "Wha Happenin'" bits had me creased up with laughter. Heaven knows what Guest and Levy have cooked up for him for the next movie.

He's may well be the funniest guy in movies, but never gets any credit (except maybe on this message board) My favorite character of his is Lt. Hookstratten

Well, most of the time you have to be at least a decent actor to win the Oscar. And this guy is horrible. He might be funny, but there is no Academy Award for "Best Comedic Lead". I just saw Anchorman recently, and don't get me wrong, it was funny, but Fred Willard did an absolutly awful acting job. He might be funny, but his ability to play a believeable character was pretty bad in that movie. Saying Willard should receive an Oscar over someone like Johnny Depp, Don Cheadle, etc.(someone who HASN'T yet gotten an Oscar), is like saying Adam Sandler should get Best Actor instead of Anthony Hopkins because he was funny in Happy Gilmore. Please. The Academy already is unfair enough. Let's not ruin it completely.
Oh I'm sorry. Did I break your concentration?

Adam Sandler funny? YOU should get an Academy Award for saying that with a straight face.

Hmm, I think I liked Best in Show better over all, but maybe he was better in A Mighty Wind. He is one of the kings of deadpan, and Bob Newhart is awesome at that, too. He was a trip in Anchorman, too. I have been a fan ever since Real People.

For his considerable, ongoing dedication to charity works with various nonprofits Big Brothers / Big Sisters, Fred and his wife Mary were honored in 2010 with the Golden Star Award. Fred was also honored by Actors and Others for Animals with the Man of The Year Award in 2008, and the couple also works with City of Hope, John Wayne Cancer Society, PETA and dozens more. Fred received a commendation from the City of Los Angeles and Mayor Antonio Villaraigarosa for "outstanding humanitarian and philanthropic work helps to further the goal of making the City of Los Angeles a better place". I would rather receive those kind of honors than an Oscar.
