Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Frank Zappa

On the third viewing of Cronenbergs Scanners (81) I discovered that in a scene where the yellow van crashes into what I guess was a record store - there are something like 4 or 5 threads of the copies of Sheik Yerbouti clearly looking at us in their full frontal nudity. Obviously not a coincidencedo we have a Zappa fan here, in Cronenberg?

Perhaps he was a fan, given their shared interest in all things surreal.
Perhaps, though, he hated that album and wanted to show it being destroyed en masse by the van in question.

Hm, all Sheiks seemed to remain intact though Maybe some geeky record stores even had this many copies, it sold pretty well for an FZ record - having all those Bobby Browns and Dancin Fools on it.

I haven't seen scanners, but another Cronenberg movie, "Videodrome" has a character named Father O'Blivion

Good call, Mr Cheepnis, but I think you'll find it's Brian O'Blivion

"Sheik Yerbouti" was the first Frank Zappa album I bought. I heard about it from a few people. So I went to the record store looking for "Shake Your Booty". The title is a play on words. Zappa appears on the cover in Arab headdress. Frank's father was from Sicily with Arab ancestry.
