Would you identify with him more, if he was grew up in the ghetto, dirt poor, being beaten everyday by an abusive father? Addicted to drugs by the time he was 13? WTF?
I do not understand you people. Seriously.
I did my research, because hell yeah, I was like who the hell is this kid? He comes from a musical family, his mother and grandmother worked hard to make sure he was in all the right activities, as a child: acting groups, singing groups, nice schools. He was not pampered, he was simply loved by a good mother and other family members.
This is normal. The way life should be. Every kid should grow up this way.
It makes me blush to hear him talk about his love for Nicky and Rihanna, but hey that is what you do at 23 years of age or for some of us even younger.
Rap has never been about skin color. Ya'll made it about that, but it originates from slaves, (aka black people of mixed descent) putting a voice to their sorrows. Period. I think he qualifies.
Eminem is truly the only person to cross color lines and there is no negativity in that. Hell, the man had to find a voice for his pain in some way and he is good at what he learned to do. No shame in me saying that about Eminem.
Drake is real. Young. Growing as a man. Growing through life. Artistic, talented, gifted, intelligent. He is what all of us aspire to be. As for his bi-racial heratiage: It is obvious his parents liked each other alot. The man is beautiful!
He is Lenny, before Lenny became a man. And, no one dissed Kravitz. Enjoy him will he is still rough around the edges; that will all smooth out one day. While he is still open to being honest in his lyrics, and his life is relatively pain free. In another ten years that will be all gone from his music.
Don't be a hater. Buy his records and unabashedly enjoy his music. Drake is real. As real as it gets! -

Don't worry about it because everybody is not hating on Drake. I think some of his haters see him as a threat. Gangsta rap is dead (no one wants to hear about gang banging or blings anymore). Its always the same chorus with the haters because they say the following things about him ALL the time:- He is an actor.
- He is biracial or white (even though Drake considers himself black, some people call him white).
- He grew up rich.
- He is from Canada.
- He is Jewish.
- He is soft or gay.
- He is fake and not real hip hop.
I matched my points by the numbers above and this is how I see things: - Who cares if Drake started out as an actor. 50 Cents and Em are actors and no one diss them? The top hip-hop heads say this dude is passionate about hip-hop. Ed Love talked about him recently-he says Drake is legit. Do you have to be from the hood to be considered a rapper?
- Hip Hop has no color. In fact, the biggest consumers of rap are whites. All the top rappers know this, but will NEVER admit it to the media.
- Anyone who did REAL research on Drake know he did not grow up in wealth. His parents divorced, his father struggled, his mother (who was ill) couldn't always pay the bill and he was made to feel like an outsider due to him being mixed.
- Who cares if he is Canada? Hip Hop crosses all nationalities. He is half-American himself!
- Jewish? Rick Rubin (top rap producer) is Jewish. The Beastie Boys (one of the greatest hip hop groups) are Jewish!
- Drake is sensitive, but in no way is he soft or gay. Drake is in good company because they have accused Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil Wanye, Dr. Dre, Andre 3000 and even 50 Cents of being gay.
- Dake is real. He doesn't pretend to be hard or gangsta. He is being who he is. He has an intelligent and nerdy swag about him which is both different and appealing.
Enjoy him will he is still rough around the edges; that will all smooth out one day. While he is still open to being honest in his lyrics, and his life is relatively pain free. In another ten years that will be all gone from his music.
I say this all the time. Drake will learn and grow because the Drake now will be a different Drake in the future.
Buy his records
The more I listen to TML, the more I like it. It took two spins for me to get it, but now I can't stop listening.

I agree with all of these points and to add onto number 3 growing up in an affluent neighborhood does not=rich, I grew up in a nice suburb but we weren't loaded, sure we had money and we weren't struggling but it wasn't like I was going to top stores buying all the big name stuff , people who live in big houses and nice neighborhoods don't have a bunch of money, some live paycheck to paycheck just like anybody else.
Oh and TML has grown on me .. the songs I snubbed at first are even great! (except Fancy, still wishing he had left that off..) -

Wow you broke that down perfectly.
But to give my own answer to the OP, what is happening right now in hip-hop is that we're seeing a shift in focus. We're going away from one type of hip-hop and moving into a new one. We see the focus being taken away from the violent and misogynistic songs and moving more into honesty and "casual" tales told in a unique way. Drake personifies this new style and he basically is carrying the torch. This frightens some people (aka haters) because Drake is a threat. He is this new force that they do not like and in turn they do everything in their power to fight it (by going into ev1908ery corner of the net talking sh!t about dude).
Drake has made it possible for international rappers to have a REALISTIC chance to actually break through in hip-hop. Drake has also made it very appealing and fresh to mix different genres into hip-hop. Im not talking about samples or collaborations, but rappers actually themselves delving into new genres and fusing it with rap. This is a very fresh and revitalizing thing for hip-hop, but some people frown upon these new additions so they simply hate on him.
I'm Jay Electronica the Black Adam/ Settin sh!t on fire like a cracked atom -

Haters are people who take their 'hatred' for a person, place or thing over the top.
It goes from criticism and dislike to just pure insulting, which most of the time they can never back up.
Secretly, I believe that "Posion Ivy" is about an STD. -

Actually a lot of people hate on 50 Cent and Eminem. And I can see why. Drake sounds all the same and y'all make it sound like people hate on him, because he is rich and famous, which is certainly not the case.

I never understood why people hate on Drake either. Although, I have to admit the some of the memes are funny, I just don't understand where all that hate comes from.
Do you know how hard it is to find a good redbone? -

I wasn't going to hate on him till I saw Drakes performance on Jay Leno Tonight Show. It was a "singing" song, not one of his rap songs. It was so terrible. It's not often that I am motivated to get up and google a performer based on how out of tune they are. It was really uncomfortable just to watch.

People are just stupid and don't always except everyone. I wasn't really into Robin Thicke when I heard Lost Without You but ending up falling in love with his music. Drake is dope to me but to someone else he might suck because they don't wanna like him for whatever lame reason it maybe. Just think of all the haters he has more people that love the boy then don't. That's how I look at him. The world is you either hate or love a person ya know.

I think he's a good actor but his music to me is just lame. Doesn't mean that I hate him, and people who like him should not get offended if someone hates or calls him a loser, more of Drake for you to have.
There is so many different kinds of music and other artists for us to likewhy do you think that is? -

I don't hate Drake I just think he should stick to acting because he's not that great of a rapper. Not sure why many folks consider him 'legend' tier because he's about as far away from there as one can get. His songs are unappealing to me mostly, same as Nicki Minaj. Everyone places her on a pedestal spouting "She's the greatest out right now!" when she isn't either.
