John see2000ms ok, despite constantly making crappy films. Jim gets on my nerves all the time though, precisely because of the reasons you named.

I do think Jim Halpert is a little bit vanilla, and it can get irritating, but at the same time, could Jim really be written any differently and be successful? I wouldn't say John Krasinski is annoying though, at least from the interviews I've watched.

I agree. He is a psuedo-intellectual, pretentious twerp who, to make things worse, is also a money-grubbing fame whore - proven by small parts in "The Holiday" (I.E. he'll take any part, no matter how stupid, no matter in what film) and his refusal to turn down a paycheck and appear in "License to Wed," possibly the worst movie of the last 10 years.
I hate everything he epitomizes. The fact that women across the country tune in to "The Office" to fantasize about his character - which is designed around about two very safe gestures and obvious "nice guy" cliches - is very illustrative of what they think of men.
The answer, of course, is that they are totally unimaginative in how they view the opposite sex. They prefer a safe, sanitized, clean version of men to fantasize over. In other words, it's just like men across the country jerking off to Playboy. Women just do their fantasizing in a different way; they don't cop to it. They pretend to be interested in the show, acting talent, etc. They tune in to "The Office" and live through Pam.
With the aforementioned attributes, combined with tall gangliness and palletable boy-next-door looks, he has become the Ken Doll of the decade. It does not matter that he is not an interesting or particularly funny actor. He is just "a type" that is en vogue now. That's why he is famous - not for the acting or writing. The puzzled mini-grimace alone is probably worth millions to him by now.

        • Of course, I'm sure there are some women who tune in to watch "The Office" not to fantasize over Krasinski, but just because they don't understand comedy.

I stopped reading at " refuses to turn down a paycheck" Its called working and making a living ! Only people like Jack Nicholson have the money & everlasting box office drawing power- to sit for 10 yrs waiting for the perfect script to show up at their door. Its all about keeping your name out there for people to think of you and SEND you scripts. Fame whores are people like Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt-who make up personal dramas to get their faces on magazines. Take sev million for putting their twins on People Mag. Now they are rich and can wait on good movies. Michael Caine has taken any kind of role all his career-as 1000's of others have. I lived in LA & there's 10's of thousands of people wantib68ng to be actors or singers. You grab a role if you get offered one.

Wow. You know EXACTLY how women think. That is amazing. What's even more amazing is that you even write a whole life story about how they think. You probably go out on a lot of dates. A real ladies man. Congratulations.
IMO, he is a good actor (though I'm limited to only watching The Office). His facial expressions are funny because it kind'a relates to how normal people react to certain scenarios and those expressions say something to the audience, like "Wow. What the hell just happened?" A lot of what The Office goes by is relating to people's expressions in the work field (though scenes are more-so exaggerated).
This obviously won't change your opinion, though I find no means of trying to sway you. But just cool it done. Chill out and think before you preach nonsense about how "unimaginative" women are viewing the opposite sex.

And I suppose drooling over airheads such as Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian makes you an intellectual? Please love, do not cast stones when you hide dingle berries in your pants! If you play the game of which sex is the shallow empty vessel with one track minds, you will find yourself buried under those stones you so callously cast!!

WOW, would I like to meet you herfantasyisrudy. You sound like a very lonely, spiteful, jealous person that has nothing better to do than to knock down people in your pseudo intellectual ways. You give us specious arguments trying to impress. Why do7ecn't you go to Hollywood and become something since you obviously have it all figured out, incorrectly. A waste of my time! The guy is super talented. End of conversation.

Unless you know him personally, where do you get off saying this nonsensical tripe? Do you know him? If you do, have some courage and say it to his face instead of hiding here pretending to know someone when you have never spent a second in his presence. Possibly you envy him so you write a piece like this. Blah

Um, no. Actually I'm female and I watch for Dwight's antics of stupidity, that's hilarious. Don't make this into a rant about "what women want" just because of some actor you don't like.

LOL. It's his appearance, along with some cute and desirable mannerisms/personality traits, that makes him attractive to women. You know all the same kind of stuff that attracts men to Hollywood starlets. I love how some men are absolutely blind to similarities between the genders and work themselves up into a tizzy condemning women for doing precisely the things that they do, all the while pretending that the woman's actions are somehow uniquely feminine and totally different from anything a MAN might do! It's absurd.

I have nothing against John the actor, but regarding the character of Jim, I see your point. I read a recent interview with Rashida Jones and she said, during her stint on the Office, people would throw things at her and yell 'you're not good enough for Jim!' and I wondered how old are the people watching this show? 10? 12? As funny as the Office is, or was, with the comedic genius of Rainn Wilson and Steve Carell, who the hell cares about Jim and Pam? Both characters are a$$holes, and both actors are only marginally attractive- but come on this board and say anything against either and a witch hunt ensues

This is actually a highly perceptive explanation, you make excellent points. A bit harsh on Krasinski personally but I completely agree with the Jim analysis. Women tune into the Office to live through Pam, spot-on analysis and well articulated.

Yes. Watch the original UK Office and keep an eye on the character 'Tim Canterbury' played by Martin Freeman, to see how 'Jim' could be played differently and successfully.
