"I think it's the smug camera reactions, the intentional goofiness, the faux earnestness."
Are you talking about the Jim character or the actor?! I don't watch the Office regularly, just when nothing else is on. It's very funny, but sometimes the drabness of it all can be a bit depressing. Like, "Thank God I'm not working in an office like that."
I find Jim's cute, quirky looks at the camera to show that he, of all the people there, represents us, and his knowing glances shows that of anyone he's the one to recognize the absurdity he's surrounded by.
At least that's my take on his goofiness. I haven't actually seen him in anything else, (guess I'll have to watch "Dreamgirls" again!). Of everyone there I can see him with a successful TV or maybe film career.

well I get what you mean but it's not like he16d0's super overrated or called the best actor of all time or sexiest man alive. He was very good for The Office, exactly what the character "Jim" should be, and that's that. No need to over-analyze or what not
But I get your point, of course.

His looking into the camera annoys the hell outta me.
Yeah, I think what the OP was saying is that he can't act. And fanboys came outta the woodwork to drool all this frankenstein "cutie." Please, he's not cute at all.

I was watching Jarhead the other day and hadn't realized before that he was an army officer in that movie. It was a short role but he look so different with shorter hair and glasses. It'd be cool to see him in an action film as a cop or in a movie like The Kingdom, like in a war zone or something. All of his movies are comedies or romantic dramas or something of that sort. He has such an awesome voice that it'd be cool to see him as a more serious character in another film. For some reason I see him working alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Christian Bale in something haha

haha! so far we have - "hes a bully", "hes a coward".
my vote is that he is pretty likeable. and there about 6 million ppl anually on thursday nights who think he is funny. mind u, they dont all tune in for him. but john & rain wilson are now the catalysts of the show.
but please dont take my opinion to mean anyone here is wrong w/ their opinion,
because you're not. i think all this proves nothing more than everyone has different tastes. whether that be comedy, polictics, sports, movies, guy & gals its all relative.
but i can promise u this krasinski prob wouldnt still be on the show if he wasnt popular w/ the mainstream.
then again we live in a time where its cool to be faux pas. but no worries there either, hipsters will keep reminding us whats cool & acceptable.
