That's his schtick. That's what he gets paid to do.
I've heard that he often times apologizes off-camera, and that the contestants are all warned ahead of time to not take him seriously–It's all an act…
Contestant:
But they said I was good.
Simon:
Well, they were lying to you.
Simon is talking about his own producers here. They string along bad acts as long as they can just to make a fool out of them for the whole world to see and laugh at.
So just don't watch him anymore Luke. I haven't watched him in years. I don't even know what show he's on.
These are not talent-shows–They're entertainment-shows for the sole purpose of getting high ratings and bringing in big bucks from advertisers.
They don't give a damn about any of the contestants' feelings, and they make them all sign waivers so they can't be sued for defamation.
