Valentines Day: Emma Roberts, Carter Jenkins (top); Taylor Swift (bottom)
Avatar was the #2 movie at the North American box office on Wednesday (Feb. 17), right behind Valentines Day, according to Box Office Mojo. Garry Marshalls Valentines Day grossed $2.26 million, while James Camerons sci-fi blockbuster Avatar grossed $1.71 million, a small 6.8 percent drop from the day before.
Valentines Day stars Bradley Cooper (above), Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Biel, Anne Hathaway, Taylor Lautner, Kathy Bates, Eric Dane, Shirley MacLaine, Hector Alizondo, Jennifer Garner, Taylor Swift, Topher Grace, and numerous others. Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Si5b4gourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang.
Joe Johnstons The Wolfman, starring Benicio del Toro and Anthony Hopkins, was the #3 movie with $1.56 million, followed by Chris Columbus adventure flick Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, with Logan Lerman, down two spots with $1.45 million (-23.8%).
Dear John, starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried, was #5 with $803K (-14.6%), Dwayne Johnsons Tooth Fairy was #6 with $444K, and the John Travolta-Jonathan Rhys Meyers vehicle From Paris with Love was #7 with $392K.
Rounding out the top twelve were Jeff Bridges Crazy Heart ($336K), Mel Gibsons Edge of Darkness ($335K), Denzel Washingtons post-apocalyptic drama The Book of Eli ($230K), the Kristen Bell-Josh Duhamel romantic comedy When in Rome with ($226K), and Sandra Bullocks The Blind Side ($154K).
At #15 was Shahrukh Khans My Name Is Khan. Although the controversial Bollywood hit made only $93K at 120 screens, its $776 per screen average remained the highest among the top twenty films.
