I would tell him the truth. If you keep saying Santa is real and he believes you and insists to everyone else that Santa is real, and then you eventually tell him the truth, he'll be like, "YOU LIED TO ME!! I TRUSTED YOU!! NOW I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE!"
Although I guess that goes for any kid whose parents tell them to believe in Santa, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, Peace on Earth, etc.
