A little bit about the movie's budget, it sounds a little troublesome, but I hope she finds a way to shoot more in Sacramento.Looks like the shooting starts in August:

I thought it sounded like her own coming of age story. Nice find Poetswan. Oh, the beginning of production makes sense as Saoirse will be done with the play by mid July.

I know this is a risky project, it being Greta's directorial debut, but I am really excited for this. Its like I said before, I loved Frances Ha and Mistress America, which she co-wrote with Noah, its exactly my comedy taste and i am confident that Greta will do a good job with the script. Man, I really want this to work out!

This will always be the case with first time directors Poetswan, but she has enough experience collaborating with her partner as a writer and of course understanding the acting side as well. I've not seen the number of films I normally would have the past year and a half, so I did not see Mistress America to date.
I enjoyed Frances Ha very much due to its wit, style and heart. I took my mom, and when I went to my
          assigned
seat, I noticed an elderly lady sitting in mine with her friend. She had a seat somewhere else but refused to give it up! When the attendant came to square it away, the lady still wouldn't move. The film began to start, so I said the hell with it. The attendant then gave me a chair like one would have used in a school cafeteria and placed it at the end of the first row. Good thing it was a very short film.
On a serious note, I've a good feeling about this film because this is going to be a very personal story about a portion of Gerwig's life, and I'm confident in her ability to deliver a fine script and place it in the hands of a extraordinary young actress.

            New French interview w/ Gerwig
You will turn your first film as writer and director
Yes, Lady Bird , filming begins this summer. I am fortunate that the heroine is played by Saoirse Ronan, she's great. The film is about the relationship of a young girl with her mother, the year of its 18 years, before leaving to study in college.

This is still a comedy right?

It sounds like a comedy drama, probably coming of age as stated above. The description of the film recalls Saoirse's first film "I Could Never Be Your Woman" considering it had a subplot about a relationship with the mother and daughter. Hopefully it's not a rom-com like that film though.

Nice find. Now we know a bit more about the plot. I'm just speculating, but because of the director, perhaps the film will ha1c84ve some comedic flourishes given Gerwig's history of characters in her previous roles. However, my instinct tells me this will be a serious and heartfelt story about a young women who is facing the separation from her beloved home as she takes the next step in her life.
I'm probably overly optimistic when it comes to Saoirse's upcoming projects, but this strikes me as a role with great potential.

And i think its perfect for Saoirse, given its about the relationship beteween mother and daughter( we know how close she is to her mam). I am just a little scared that Greta may end up falling into the pretentious mistake, she comes from a super indie background, so she probably is not scared of trying new things, but she needs to know how much is enough. We've seen that happen with violet and Daisy, style over substance, but since Gerwig is a great writer and she will probably have guidance from Noah, who is her partner in real life, I may be wrong.

My feeling is this story won't be ultra chatty and hip like what we saw in Frances Ha. I've no way of knowing, but this sounds like such a personal project about a young woman during her last year at home in Sacramento Ca. It's not about a character trying to make her mark in the big apple. I'm just guessing at this point, but we should have many more details in the next few months.

Any thoughts on who could play her mother? I know its whishful thinking, but ever since that actors on actors interview I've been wondering how cool would it be Saoirse and Kate as mother and daughter in a movie, althought its almost impossible for Gerwig to get Winslet.

Oh yeah, I think she could be good. I looked at the picture you posted and thought she had such a familiar face, then I went to her imdb page and surprisinly she has been in a bunch of well know movies.
