This has made my day. Wonderful news! I seriously thought that project was no more in her future. Even if J.Rourke will be a first time director she seems to have a fantastic background and connections.

Bad news in my opinion. Are any of you actually familiar with the life of Mary Queen of Scots? A barrel of laughs it most definitely was not and I can't see such a depressing film having much appeal to the general public.
It would be much better for Saoirse to make a film that would be a hit at the Box Office rather than yet another miss.

This version will be a new take on Mary Stuarts life. I trust it will turn out fantastic!

I started the book by Antonia Fraser previously, but some of the author's incredibly dense detail into the royal genealogy kind of turned me off. It's a tough read, but I'll have to start it again in the future.

You don't become known as a "great actress" and get remembered just for doing popular films, though.

That is a good point but so far Saoirse hasn't made a single big popular film. We know that she is a great actress but how many people don't? And until she has at least one big hit under her belt she is unlikely to be offered any plum roles.
Personally I think she should look at television and stop concentrating solely on films. Arguably there is better quality television being made these days than film.

TV just isn't interesting to me. I'd like to see her work with big "prestige" directors more often, but that's really the only place I would like to see her career "progress". Blockbusters or a soapy serialzed drama on TV would be a waste of her talent and she seems to be aware of that given her disinterest in those kinds of roles. The only "commercial" type thing I might like to see her do would be a classy big budget romantic drama, but those aren't exactly commercial anymore, either.

What about if HBO did a TV mini-series of 'Brooklyn' with a more complex Eilish character played by Saoirse again? That could be great I think to be able to have a direct comparison between the two formats on the same subject. In my opinion the extended TV mini-series for a book adaptation is superior to a time limited film.

Seriously what are you taking about? Ronan is in a position where she chooses her own roles, who she works with, etc. She doesn't need to star in trashy big-budget movies in order to please people like you! She's better than that!

I'm real! You clearly know nothing about her as an actress! Instead you're talking trash and assuming she's not in-control of her own career, which she very much is! If you did your research, you'll find she turns down the many roles she's2000 offered because they don't suit her.

                          WOW!!!! Exciting news.
"Were filming Mary, Queen Of Scots next year . . . finally! Ive been involved with the film for four years,
But I honestly won't believe this until we get confirmation with castings etc, since we've all been let down before. Also, why why why does she always get stuck with first-time directors? Producers need to be more ambitious with her starring projects.

Tim Bevan, the producer said that casting won't start until 2017. There are great people behind this project, so I won't fret! Perhaps, Ronan likes to work with 'up and comers'. I mean she has worked with almost every great director and producer. I think it's great that she working with Miss Rourke on this project.

She has starred in mainstream films! Ronan likes to star in indie films anyway, she said so in an interview. She's picky about her roles!

When I came to the board, I first thought it was an old thread, but then I realized a poster just started it. I initially felt Saoirse had a chance to work with a director whose films were twice nominated (one win) for a foreign film Oscar, and this possibility had made me very enthused about the project. I've seen three of Bier's films and was looking forward to Saoirse working with her, but now that a new director will take the reins, I'm still happy about it partly because this is another film we'll perhaps have for 2017 or 2018.

Yeah Susane Bier would have been much better, but researching, I found out Rourke is a pretty acomplished theater director, she is the artstic director of a famous london theater, has done many plays and was even nominated for an oliver award. That gives me a little bit of confidence.
