It's barely 24 hours after she died.. and people wanted Jennifer to go all out and belt out a perfect rendition of the song? What if she had done exactly that? Or even did a better mind blowing performance.. it would have seemed out of place and almost insulting because it would have been about Jennifer not Whitney.
She clearly seemed sad while singing it and holding back.. Anyone hating on Hudson should realize she'b68s a good person not some egotistical Hollywood person. I'm glad she didn't even attempt to outshine Whitney.. She could have done it, but it would have been wrong to even try.
Booty Time! Booty Time! Across the USA.. Booty Time! Booty Time! Yay Yay Yay..

Her repeated off-key notes had nothing to do with being upset. She wasn't that overcome with emotion on stage anyway. It is just a horrible rendition.
Check out Diana Ross singing just after she got the news of Marvin Gaye's death. Her tears cause her voice to falter but she's never off-key. No one expects Jennifer to be Whitney, but at least do Ms. Houston the honor of singing in key.

I thought Marvin Gaye didn't get along with Diana Ross. I read a long time ago that they were supposed to record an album together, but Diana Ross didn't want Marvin smoking around her and he refused to stop. In the end I think they recorded in the studio seperately.
Anyway, on Miss Hudson. I have to agree with the OP. She is no Whitney Houston and I didn't like her version of I Will Always Love You. I don't think she can even come close to Whitney as a singer. But like Whitney, I think she is very pretty.

Sorry, but my initial opinion of her has changed a bit since what I said at the start of this thread.

"The only person I thought of was Jennifer Hudson," he says. "It was almost automatic to have her do I Will Always Love You, but not as a big performance. It had to be internal."
"The first time she did it, she got bigger than I wanted her to be," Ehrlich says. "I told her, 'You're not singing for these people. You're singing for Whitney.' She pulled back, and that's the one everyone heard. It was touching and so meaningful." -The Grammy Awards' executive producer Ken Ehrlich.

So she did it even better in rehearsal? So Ehrlich is saying she held back a little bit at the Grammys?

Yep she held back per his request out of respect for Whitney. She is totally capable of blowing that song completely out of the water. Jennifer STILL sounded amazing even holding back, now that's talent.

So she held back not to outdo Whitney? If thats true then that says a lot about her. I'm not a big fan of her, but if that's true then I like her for being so gracious.

You are right. If Clive was hoping she would replace Whitney he was wrong. There will never be another singer/actress like Whitney.

Good, if everybody sounded like Whitney music would be boring. We need different type of vocalists to make music. Why is it embarrassing? Dolly Parton has written plenty of songs that were big hits for her cds and movies. She does not need to cling to one song. She has legendary career. She gets a lot of money and is still writing. Its more unique for singer to write a lot of their own songs. Dolly is vain but she can make fun of herself. Thats a good trait to have. Not everyone can do that. She broke barriers and is very smart. Dolly has never had anything but good things to say about Whitney. Im not fan of Whitney but she did have beautiful voce. I just cannot connect to her music for some reason. Jennifer is not as bad as others.
