Who changes their surname to that of their stepfather?

Even her mother didn't change her name. But maybe if you want to be an actor and your stepfather is a very famous award winning actor - Mark Rylance - then it helps. But just looks incredibly cynical.

I was wondering what the Rylance connection was I was thinking maybe she was his wife? Thanks for clearing that up! And I wouldn't call it so much cynical as perhaps opportunistic especially if she changed her name as an adult.

Uninformed judgement is a dangerous thing. As the other gentleman pointed out, actors change their last name quite often for a number of reasons. If you think hers is cynical or opportunistic, ok. I see as much fault in your criticism as I do in her decision. However,
Her decision did not include passing judgement on another person's character, so you appear to be the one at fault.
