I know, I'm kinda annoyed about the subscription issue.
Anyway, I've found that when she's outspoken in an interview it's usually about the right things. (The only example I can think of in terms of crop-top empowerment is Megan Fox from Transformers. That's how out of touch I am.)
MW can be pretty blunt in interviews at times yet she seems to know when to rein it in. I also have to respect her for the fact that she never drops any names.

The ability to be blunt but respectful is one that I really admire in an actress, so this is good to know.
I'm pretty out of touch too. One of the worst examples I can come up with is Sucker Punch. I didn't even see the full movie, but I rarely hear good things. -

Yeah, I agree, that sounds like a more feisty Mia, more "outspoken" as you say. I definitely would like to read the entire interview, too. She usually keeps a lid on in her interviews, and avoids anything too controversial. I can only imagine what she thinks or says in private. And her point is spot-on. It probably is worth a new thread if someone gains access to the whole piece. The subject might have come up in connection to "Maps to the Stars", which is focused on Hollywood and it's delusional, hypocritical side - among other things.

Mb68W has been particularly vocal over the years about women's issues, particularly feminism ("just about equality, really; I don't know why it's so bogged down"), and the lack of female directors (there were none at the last Cannes she attended) and refusing to play the girlfriend and so forth. I think it's borne somewhat from frustration even though she's easily had the pick of the litter so far in terms of female roles; she's not resting on her laurels in that respect.

Yes. I'm sure she has been very aware of this since she was a tot - her mother, and her father, for that matter, seem to be pretty conscious - and Mia took her mother's last name, too. She doesn't say that much about it, in words, but her choices in roles reflect that she v5b4ery much wants to avoid the typical female roles in films. What she does say is always brief but apt.

That's right. What other actress, remotely near her age, has had the run of complicated and challenging roles that Mia has had. One thing is that she wants to do those kinds of parts, rather than some super hero, big box office money grab - but the other is that directors and casting people know that she has the talent and intelligence to pull off these roles - they're aware of her range and what she can do. Mia realizes that the only way she will maintain her artistic edge and not lose interest, is to keep challenging herself with something different - something that might even be scary to take on. She recently has talked about liking risk takers - well, she's definitely one herself - that's the only way she can be true to her tremendous gift. -

Well, it looks like Mia has quite a central part in the film, I figured she would from the synopsis, but that's great - I love her voice, kind of creepy. Can't wait to see what Cronenberg has got up his sleeve.

I find this one more intriguing, though I think I prefer the way the other one is cut. It seems we get a better sense of the humor Mia mentioned in one of her interviews, which is nice. -

Yeah, I like this other trailer, too - it does give a little more sense of the satirical angle of the movie, also the Hollywood "ins and outs", the crazy business side, and the twisted sexual side. Thanks. I believe these are trailers that are, as the first one stated, post-production trailers, and they're probably being used to pitch for whatever markets still remain for distribution (U.S. distribution is already in place). I'm getting quite excited now about "Maps" - the characters do look intriguing, and Mia's Agatha looks like a real piece-of-work, a part that I'm sure she'll shred. Knowing it's David Cronenberg also puts it on another whole level.

So "Maps to the Stars" is now officially part of the competition at Cannes for the Palm D'Or. Great news, especially for Cronenberg.

I'd be surprised if she did, she tends to like to keep her head down and avoid controversy - assuming she goes to Cannes - that "Crimson Peak" is done filming or she can take a break. If she's asked about it, she'll probably have something figured out to say on the matter, but maybe not. "Maps to the Stars" is getting a lot of notice - it looks really good. I've seen almost all of Cronenberg's films (that's a lot) and so I know he's probably going to go to some pretty outrageous places.

It's kind of overwhelming all these Mia films coming out in 2014 - Overwhelming in a GOOD way.

I'm looking forward to seeing Mia and Julianne Moore together again - quite different than "The Kids Are Alright" - although Julianne was kind of a ditz in "Kids" and she looks that way in "Maps", too - just way more extreme, and now SHE'S the blond. In "Maps" Mia appears to be a kid who's definitely NOT alright.
