He grew up basically in a gay community, and has even commented before that when he was a teenager people thought he was gay and he basically had to 'come out' as being straight. So you're not the first person to think he might be gay. But I personally think he straight just because I can't really see him being the sort of person to have an issue with admitting he's gay if he was.

Honestly, the fact that he IS very openly and comfortably flamboyant in a lot of ways makes me totally believe him when he says he's straight. He just doesn't seem like the kind of person at all who would hide it if he was gay. He's just.. himself
As you said, he grew up from an early age around a lot of older gay guys in the San Fransisco theater community, so he probably did pick up on some mannerisms and stuff that would be thought of as "gay", and he just doesn't have that same complex of "oh I can't do anything too girly, I have to be macho or people will think I'm gay" that some other guys do.
With as comfortable in his own skin as he seems, I can't imagine he'd have any problem saying he was gay if he was. He just happens to not be

It shouldn't be some big surprise to people. Culturally gay heterosexuals have long been as big a part of the theatre community as actual gay folks. I'm just glad to see guys like Darren not catching tons of flack from the media for daring to be themselves without worrying about fitting macho stereotypes.

Tpbaier - I'm not sure what you meant by 'there is the probe' but I think the other guy in that picture might be from Starkid. The picture looks like they're touching hands but if you zoom in you can see that the other guy is holding the bag and Darren's hand is behind his, not touching. Love the glasses, lol.

I'm not remotely attracted to him, but he just reads gay to me regardless of what he says. He seems even gayer in real life than he does on the show.
If he's really straight then cool, but if he marries a womanand cheats on her or drops her later for a man
I hope he's not just another one of the many closeted celebs who refuse to come out until their careers are over because that has always been ridiculous. -

Okay, I'll just say all this again even though I've probably already said it in this thread haha:
Darren grew up in San Fransisco, doing community theater on a regular basis from a very early age with a bunch of young gay guys who kind of became mentors for him, and would take him for burgers and shakes and stuff after rehearsals, usually in The Castro (I swear I'm not a stalker or anything haha- he's said all this in interviews).
THAT is why he, yes, has a lot of those mannerisms and stuff that would often be attributed to gay guys. Because he grew up surrounded by that culture, starting from before he even had any real understanding that it WAS a particular culture, or any notion of how "straight people act" and "gay people act" or anything like that. This was so much so that, in his own words, the "cards were pretty much in place" so that at a point he actually had to "come out" as straight to family and friends and stuff.
So given that that was how he grew up- and I can't imagine how or why it wouldn't be true- I see almost NO way Darren would be in the closet if he were gay. And it also makes perfect sense to me why he would have developed traits that people would
assume
mean he's gay, but in fact he is every bit as straight as he says he is- he's just genuinely comfortable in his own skin and doesn't have that same "need to come across as macho" thing that too many 5b4straight guys have. Because he grew up with gay guys as his friends and role models, so for him it's just like.. who cares if he's flamboyant? That's just him, and he's not going to be concerned if people perceive it as gay.
I just really do not understand how anyone who grew up in that kind of environment would be in the closet. At the
very
least, if he were gay, I'd expect he'd at least be out in his personal life. And generally I think when lgbt celebs are out in their personal lives but just don't want to really state it publicly for career purposes, they won't flat out lie about it, but rather they just won't directly answer the question. So yes, Darren is flamboyant and reads pretty gay in quite a few ways. Yes, I fully believe him when he says he's straight. Far more so, in fact, than I would a guy who had grown up in a very conservative environment and seemed to put real effort into "appearing manly" and such.

I respect Darren sooo much as an actor,musician,writer etc. I Honestly Do. But, i think it's slightly evident that he's gay. But as it goes, its within his best interest completely to keep saying he's straight, otherwise a career in hollywood that just about started for him, might not even continue. He's a wonderful person, wonderful actor, wonderful spirit, You can tell and i mean its obvious why so many fangirls are totally inlove with him. But its just a shame that for someone who is doing so much for the gay community, he can't even come out himself and that saddens me. As much as people say, he's not the type to lie clearly he's also VERY VERY intelligent, he can tongue twist you into oblivion with his words and he himself will know, that struggling to make it as an actor would only become

as hard if he was to come out.So its a lie for the greater good, for the life of his career. I take my hat off to Zachary Quinto for his brave move the other day, if its what's best for him then its what's best for him.
But Darren Criss is a beautiful young man in hollywood on the comeup, and he needs all the help and support he can get, why tarnish that by coming out to an industry that doesnt do any favors for openly gay actors

. He said himself that he was ready to give in the acting towel because it was so hard for him to get anywhere. Its makes ample sense why he'd stay closeted now that he's finally making it somewhere.
He as it stands has sooo much more to gain by being a

*He gets more props for playing a gay male
*More props for supporting the gay community
*More fans, as if he was gay he'd lose the homophobic ones, though i doubt he has many homophobic fans based on what he stands for.
*More females driving themself insane over how much they want to have his babies, him being gay would heartbreak alot of girls
More chances of getting romantic leading straight roles

Its sad aswell , so many defensive girls in here dont even make it any easier for him, some of you are adament with your lives that he is straight,making up sht about meeting him . Man grow up, whether you think he's straight or not, it would be so much more meaningful if you where to simply say, you don't care if he is or isnt, its his talent that matters. Because imagine if he is gay, people like you are basically pressuring him to remain closeted, because of your aggresive responses towards him possibly being gayit comes across as though you would not approve, and i can only imagine how hard that is for him.
Darren will read this board, you know he was/is a member of imdb. I say be nice, show him love and support of his sexuality whichever way he is inclined.
In a perfect world, he should'nt even have to declare a labelled sexuality to this judgemental world, but in Hollywood's world he does.

We should probably be "Darren Criss' sex life agnostics."
He has said in multiple interviews that he's straight, and maybe you're right that he's lying. But saying all the people who insisted he was straight are "defensive fangirls" and are supposedly making it more difficult for him to come out as gay, if he wasFor one, I think he knows now to avoid the Internet now that he's famous, and two, all people are going on are his own words in interviews. Until he says, "Sorry guys, fooled ya," or someone sees him with a man, we really just have to take his word for it.

Honestly, I think if anything, even if his agent and his manager said, "You have to say you're straight," wouldn't his old friends and family, and gay people he was close to, tsk tsk the lying, if he lied? Truly actors have to compromise their integrity in order to get ahead, but since he even says in interviews that he has so many gay friends, wouldn't one of them be pissed if he lied about being gay? I dunno. It's late. I'm not even a Darren Criss fangirl, why am I on this board?
edit: I don't know how well he gets along with Chris Colfer, but I think Chris'd look at him differently if he knew Darren was lying. I don't know. -

about the proof thing, im not here to out anybody. like i said. i posted in here to extend awareness of other possibilities.
Everybody knows the secret laws of hollywood,although its talked about repeatedly it is infact true that most young male actors.. if gay , are usually asked to keep it a secret. so i believe his close friends/family etc would totally understand. When it comes to morals VS surviving/living life/ being able to provide for ones family and friends. many people will go against those. This is the world of acting, something he's studied for so long, something that's extremely lucrative and something he's passionate about. He's been given the chance to be a big star, make loads of money and finally put use to his acting skills on a broader scale.. i don't think anybody close to him would frown upon him hiding his sexuality in order to enhace his success!, He only gets one chance to start his career as either "A Straight guy".. Or "An Openly Gay Guy". One Route has proved to be more successful for most young actors, why take the route that could possibly block him from getting any further. Its A Wise and understandable decision. Regardless of the type of person he is. He has to make5b4 smart decisions to keep the good things coming.. which the latter is also a quote from the man himself.

I guess I've never understood the argument that straight girls still couldn't fantasize about Darren if he were to come out as gay. I'm a gay guy and I fantasize about straight actors all the time. And not just actors who claim to are straight but I suspect are gay; I'm also talking about the guys I truly believe have no legitimate interest in other men. That's the whole point of fantasizing about actors/actresses: you're dreaming about something you could never possibly have, so you're free to frame the dream any way you'd want it to be. You could pretend that though Darren is gay, you are the one girl that is the exception for him because you're that amazing.
So to all the ladies: does knowing a guy is gay totally kill any crush a girl would have for him? -

not at all for me. Matt Bomer, NPH and Adam Lambert (to name a few) are still equally as drool-worthy as they were before. as you say, there is no chance in hell that this or that celeb will ever be aware of, let alone interested in, most people in the world, even though said people relate to them in this or that way, so one is free to make up any image one wants of the celebrity in question.. only very few are deluded enough to believe that he or she is actually destined to be with their celeb-crush
I absolutely adore Darren. I love him in Glee and especially in interviews. he's smart, wellspoken and unashamed of his fairly gayish mannerisms, he has a great sense of humour and he is so open about his upbringing in a gay atmosphere, that I really doubt he'd be gay and hide it. IF he were gay, he'd be loud and proud, I have no doubt!
He is awesome!!
on a side note, the world has changed, even in the last 10 years. Rock Hudson would've never made it if he'd been out back in the day, but look at how many gay people are ruling the charts and screens, both big and small one of my very favourite actors is Ian McKellan, and he's been out and proud for God knows how long, and he's one of the most respected actors outthere.. some people still feel the need to hide their true self, but most of them truly do not need to. the world is a lot more accepting in this millennia, than they were in the previous one.
