I never got this impression. I think he's pretty charming well, just look at him
. He does seem comfortable in the spotlight unlike his co-stars, but I think that's 'coz he's from an affluent family and has a lot of celebrity friends so he's used to the attention by now. Also he has been generous in praise whenever co-stars Jesse and Andrew are mentioned, esp. Jesse
And about the GG, I saw it again last night. I guess when Michael Douglas announced the film as the winner, every one at "The Social Network" became too busy hugging and congratulating each other then Armie ended up besides Aaron Sorkin who came up and Armie joined him going up the stage while Fincher (who stood up hugging and congratulating every one else too when the film was announced winner) chose not to go up the stage and Jesse and Andrew followed his cue.
And sorry but I'm curious, I'm not from the US so forgive me from asking this, but why does it seem like an issue when someone is Jewish or not?

Of course Eisenberg, Garfield and Fincher did not go up on stage. Best picture is awarded to the PRODUCERS. So it baffled me why Sorkin and Hammer were up there. Maybe I'd understand Sorkin, since he made a huge contribution for the project and was one of the people who pushed it into launch but c'mon Armie Hammer?
If anything the ones who should be there are Rudin, Pascal, Spacey and Brunetti. And I just recently found out that Fincher is one of the executive producers, but he already had his spotlight and he is known to be aversed to awards show.
He better change that attitude. I can see him fizzling away if more haters start to show up.

From the first time I saw him, I thought he would be smug the way he looks and carries himself, but every interview, fan encounter, etc has proved me so wrong. I guess they should have discussed what they are going to do at GG, go up if they won or not. I actually saw nothing wrong with him going up.
And he did have a huge role in the film, he was playing two people actually.

I've seem a few interviews with him, and he's not really smug at all. He goes into alot of depth about the whole acting and shooting process.

I agree! I watched him on ellen the other day, and he seemed so conceited about himself. To be honest, if I had to link him to a Disney character it would be Flynn Rider

Honestly, I think it's just the way he looks and knowing he comes from money. I assumed the same about him until I met him while he was promoting The Social Network. He's actually very nice and charming. He even offered me his coat on the red carpet because it was an unseasonably chilly night in LA. And not in a romantic way, just a chivalrous gesture.
Leave the poor guy alone until he does something meriting all this hate.
AND, last note, just saw J. Edgar and I thought he was great in it. The movie on a whole is another story.

Oh, I'll say it. It's not even anything vaguely smug. He's young so I'll give him that. Young and entitled. He hasn't earned his stripes yet. I don't care who he's starred with, how long has he been acting and how long did it take him to get high profile roles? I think he's blandly handsome so I'm not drooling all over myself over him (his height is a plus, though).
The stories that have circulated about his crazy wife are nuts. I've seen him interviewing for Mirror Mirror and he sounded like a complete ass. He starred in a movie with Julia Roberts and sounded so ungrateful and yes smug. He let's that crazy wife of his talk crazy to directors and stars that he's working with and doesn't put a muzzle on her, what?
Has anyone actually said any good things about this guy other than 'he's SO handsome/good looking', because I am really not impressed.238

I do not read smug from him. Instead, I read very very very overly excited and enthusiastic. Which, yes, probably puts some people off!
